PlayStation VR2 Headset

Electronics manufacturing giant, Sony Corporation has finally revealed the design of the long-awaited PlayStation VR2 headset. They have also released the final image of the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller. Throughout 2021, Sony gave fans a few sneak peeks, but at last, they can finally know what to expect.

The unveiling came through a PlayStation blog, by Hedaki Nishino, Sony’s Senior Vice President of Platform Experience. In the blog Nishino gave a vivid breakdown of what the headset and controller had to offer.

First look: the headset design for PlayStation VR2

The VR2 headset comes in an orb-like shape, with a smoothly rounded design, similar to the one on the DualSense controller and Pulse 3D headset. Sony also shaped the PS VR2 Sense controller like an orb to symbolize the, “the 360-degree view that players feel when they enter the virtual reality world.”

To maintain the headset’s ergonomics, the design team also retained the adjustable scope, which helps players see the scope area closer or further away, and stereo headphone jack found on the first PS VR headset. This ensures the user’s experience is just as smooth as what they enjoyed before, but that is not all. Sony has also added new features to these new virtual reality gaming must-haves.

The electronics manufacturer has introduced a lens adjustment dial, to help users optimize the distance between the lens and their eyes. The headsets also have a built-in motor for feedback and even with all this, they are still slimmer and lighter than their predecessors.

However, the best part about these headsets is the new vent design they come with. These vents allow air out of the headset, allowing enough ventilation to prevent the lens from fogging up when playing. Yujin Morisawa, the Senior Art Director behind this design says;

“ I am really proud of how this turned out and the positive feedback I have gotten so far. I hope our PlayStation fans will also agree, and I can’t wait for them to try it out.”
