Under the Sony x Bungie deal, Bungie will be an “independent subsidiary” of Sony. This means that the Board of Directors will include Bungie’s current team along with the CEO Pete Parsons.
A blog post by Bungie said, “In SIE, we have found a partner who unconditionally supports us in all we are and who wants to accelerate our vision to create generation-spanning entertainment, all while preserving the creative independence that beats in Bungie’s heart.”
Meanwhile, Bungie has been working on Destiny 2. There is an image showing “Destiny 2’s shared vision”. The image states “every player should have an amazing Destiny experience, no matter where you choose to play.”
According to the shared vision, Bungie has full creative and publishing control over the Destiny series. Destiny 2 will be available on the current platforms and expanded to new platforms as well.
Earlier this month, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard in a $68 billion deal, and Take-Two showed keen interest in purchasing Zynga. The Microsoft-Activision deal will go through in 2023.
In 2021, Sony Interactive brought six gaming companies under its umbrella which includes Valkyrie Entertainment, best known for creating ‘God of War’. Sony’s new acquisition will help PlayStation go head-to-head with Microsoft’s Xbox.
