Sony Accidentally Teases PlayStation Plus Video Pass

Heads up — it seems as though Sony has made quite the slip up with a sneaky little teaser on the official PlayStation Poland website. As spotted by VGC, a banner revealing PlayStation Plus Video Pass was plastered on the site, only to be removed shortly after by what we assume are some rather flustered admins. But hey, it's all water under the bridge. At least it gives us something to shine a light on.

Before being stripped from the frontlines, the banner was quickly translated and spread to the global forums. Although it is rather short in terms of description, it does pretty much give away the gist of the ambitious service. But as far as rolling out the platform to the rest of the world goes — I guess we won't know for quite some time. At the moment, however, it seems as though Sony is pulling strings to obscure the blatant giveaway.

“A new benefit available for a limited time on PlayStation Plus,” the description reads. “PS Plus Video Pass is a trial service active 22.04.21 – 22.04.22. The subscription benefit is available to PS Plus users in Poland.”

The banner was quickly removed from the PlayStation Poland website.

Could this be the future of PlayStation Plus?

Nested within the banner is, of course, a few heavy hitters that fall under the Sony Pictures domain. Venom, Zombieland: Double Tap, and Bloodshot, all of which were brought to life through the tech kingpin — all seem to point towards a possible counterattack against the looming defeat over the rival Game Pass service. But that's just a possibility, of course. That said, with the rising popularity spike over on the Xbox front, it does make sense for Sony to make a striking comeback. And hey, what better way to sway a gamer to PS Plus than to add a movie service to the plan, right?

Earlier this year, Sony did mention that they would be putting a halt on movie rentals and purchases this August. Again, that only seems to point towards the coined Movie Pass as being the next major instalment to the PS Plus plan. And, considering Sony Pictures are working on a whole heap of projects (Uncharted, for one), it does bode well with a potential new streaming service. After all, what better way to plug your own movies than to make them exclusive to PlayStation users?

Whatever the case, it definitely seems as though Sony is fighting tooth and nail to stay in the game over their feud with Microsoft. Whether or not the Movie Pass is a success or not is really another question. Either way, it's clear that the subscription service is only on the rise, and that, come 2022 — it might just be the ultimate gamechanger we're all hoping for. In the meantime, however, it seems as though the Poland user base might be pioneering the latest bolt-on for PlayStation Plus.

You can pick up your subscription to PS Plus for $9.99 a month.
