Silent Hill Remake: Everything We Know

Bloober Team may have preserved the integrity of the original Silent Hill 2 in the recent 2024 remake, for better or worse. Perhaps, for the better, since they are already setting their eyes on remaking the original Silent Hill. I wouldn’t say remaking the second game was an absolute crash and burn. Truly, several aspects of the visuals, combat, and atmosphere are dressed to impress. And your heart genuinely skips a beat during some grotesque and outright scary moments.
The story, too, can be quite heavy, in the best ways possible. Overall, it seems a sensible next step to remake the original. And fans’ expectations are just as high. Below, we highlight everything we know so far about the upcoming Silent Hill Remake. Stay tuned.
What is Silent Hill Remake?

After a crazy load of over two decades, fans of Silent Hill can now look forward to the remake of the original game that set the survival psychological horror franchise in motion. As remakes tend to go, you can expect to meet the same characters from the original: Alessa Gillespie, Harry Mason, and more. The story, too, will likely retain its original arcs and narrative flow.
It’s definitely an odd choice to remake the second game before the first. And that choice could be detrimental to Bloober Team’s success the second time around. However, I’m hopeful that the developing team will continue in the same stride that makes Silent Hill 2 Remake a blast.
Story

Since the remake will likely follow the same trajectory as the original, let’s do a quick recap of all that the 1999 survival horror put us through. It was the first installment in the franchise, built for the PlayStation. And caused such a massive stir against the rival Resident Evil. Players take a third-person approach to gameplay. But more of the signature of Silent Hill in your playthrough was the dense fog in the atmosphere, sending dreadful chills down the spine. Along with the constant sense of dread was a series of bone-chilling events.
Your protagonist is an ordinary person, a Harry Mason, searching for his missing, adopted daughter. Your search then leads you to the mystical and fictional American town of Silent Hill. What follows are terrifying events involving a deadly cult, unraveling a choice-based narrative leading to five endings.
Gameplay

Gameplay is pretty simple. You help Harry Mason find his way through Silent Hill, never turning back despite the flurry of grotesque monsters and creepy events. You must find your missing daughter, Cheryl. And the way to her is solving puzzles, fighting unexpected enemies, and exploring a most dreadful town.
You use both melee and ranged weapons. Sprinting also takes away stamina. Since Harry isn’t the most skilled combatant, you’ll often suffer from imprecise aim. Meanwhile, you have a radio that lets you know of any approaching monsters. While the dense fog minimizes visibility, you have maps to help navigate the world. You can use a flashlight, though, to illuminate a path forward. However, this might cause monsters to locate you more easily.
It’ll be interesting to see how the remake handles the visual and gameplay polish. If Silent Hill 2 Remake is anything to go by, Bloober Team will likely add wholly new environments to explore. But, they may also expand the existing ones. The story will potentially remain the same, albeit with more dialogue options, perhaps, or more alternate endings. It’ll be interesting to also see whether the remake takes a more combat-oriented approach to your playthrough rather than exploration or story-based.
Visually, however, is where most of the improvements will likely be, especially since the original was released in 1999. And the dense fog and frequent darkness may have played a part in concealing 1999’s console limitations. So, it’ll definitely be interesting to see how Bloober Team uses today’s next-gen hardware to create more defined environments. And, hopefully, this doesn’t take away the game’s eerie atmosphere and mystery in the distance fog.
Development

Official confirmation of the making of the Silent Hill Remake came during the Konami Press Start Live Showcase held on June 12, 2025. And it’s during the showcase that we got wind of Bloober Team, in partnership with Konami, spearheading development; the same studios that worked on 2024’s Silent Hill 2 Remake.
In an earlier statement issued by Bloober Team’s CEO, Piotr Babieno, he says, “The trust built upon the success of Silent Hill 2 laid the foundation for signing another agreement (with Konami) for a new project.” This new remake is definitely it as we look forward to launch day.
Trailer
Unfortunately, the official announcement trailer for the Silent Hill Remake barely revealed much. It was aired at the same Konami Press Start Live Showcase on June 12, 2025, and only highlights Konami and Bloober Team’s logos, along with the words “SILENT HILL In development,” flashing on-screen to the franchise’s iconic music.
But the description of the YouTube view is more forthcoming, stating, “The dense fog returns! We are thrilled to announce that a SILENT HILL remake project is in the works at Bloober Team, developed in close cooperation with our friends from Konami!”
Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

Despite the announcement at the Konami Press Start livestream, Bloober Team and Konami held back on revealing the release date for Silent Hill Remake. The studios didn’t reveal the platforms and editions we can expect, either. It’s clearly still early stages of the development of the Silent Hill Remake. And when you consider that other upcoming projects are underway, we could be looking at a bit of time before we can get our hands on the remake.
So far, we’re looking forward to Silent Hill f, an eighth survival horror mainline game in the Silent Hill series, slated to release on September 25, 2025. There’s Silent Hill: Townfall, an all-new survival horror entry with no release date. And an upcoming live-action film adaptation of Silent Hill 2, titled Return to Silent Hill, is slated to launch on January 23, 2026. These make up at least three upcoming projects in the works, which you can follow more closely via the official social media handle here.
