Should you buy a PS Vita in 2022

When it comes to the world of portable gaming, PS Vita's don't regularly come up in conversation. However, some players continue to use and appreciate the portable gaming system, which is celebrating just over a decade-long career year in 2022. That's why a viable question is if you should buy a PS Vita in 2022? Well, we will give you the answers to help you make that choice, with this guide.

Should you buy a PS Vita in 2022?

The quick and simple answer is there are better options for portable gaming than the PS Vita in 2022. Especially if you just want a portable gaming device to play the newest games on the go. Better and more modern options would be a Nintendo Switch or even an Android or Apple phone or tablet.

If you want to buy a PS Vita in 2022, your incentive to do so should be to experience old back-logged Vita games. This is a completely fair reason, however, there are a few things to consider if you do.

  • No new games

PlayStation stopped making games for the PS Vita on July 20, 2021, despite that, these games are still accessible on the PlayStation store. It's also the only accessible way to download games for the device nowadays. Unless you buy second-hand physical copies, which can be hard to find.

  • Steep Price for Outdated Software

Since the PS Vita was discontinued, the only way to find one is through a reseller like GameStop or off eBay. Which is coming in over-priced since you can consider them limited edition due to their discontinuation. That's why there's a fair argument to be said about grabbing a Nintendo Switch Lite, which is coming in at roughly the same price.

  • Outdated Interface

Another drawback is that many of the PS Vita's apps and interface features don't work since they haven't been updated. Apps like Youtube and Twitter aren't functional, which means you'll mainly be using the Vita to play outdated games.

  • Memory Cards

Unless you get a 64GB PS Vita (The most expensive option) you'll most likely need to buy memory cards. PS Vitas have limited memory and require you to regularly purchase fresh memory cards in order to save downloaded games, and the in-game progress you've made. They aren't very expensive, but it is an inconvenient hassle to keep track of.
