Scare me, PLS: 5 Horror Indies You Might’ve Missed in 2021

Now and again, it can be good to get your blood going and scare yourself straight. Here are 5 horror Indies that will do just that.

Firework

To start, we have a creepy Asian puzzle game that takes place in a small village. A sudden fire during the funeral made the police re-open a cold massacre case. You play as Lin Lixun, a young policeman who joins in on the investigation, which soon blurs the line between real and supernatural. Firework has an engaging story balanced with a sense of mystery, so the end result is a solid horror adventure that doesn't rely on jumpscares.

A deep dive into the supernatural Steam

Nightslink

Nightslink puts you in a post-apocalyptic world where you deliver cassette tapes. This is an old-school Lovecraftian adventure that plays tricks with your mind. The game asks more questions than it answers, but by paying attention to the clues, you can piece together a lot. While short, Nightslink certainly is a bizarre and intriguing experience.

Bloodwash

For those of us that grew up in the '90s, Bloodwash can easily trigger a sense of nostalgia. This is an old-school survival horror that follows Sara – a pregnant college student. She isn't all that cheerful, as a serial killer called the Womb Ripper is terrorizing the city, and she has to go to the old laundromat at the edge of town. I mean, what could possibly go wrong, right? All in all, Bloodwash is a bizarre, creepy, and atmospheric Indie that will appeal to those of us looking for something a bit different.

Tiny Bunny

Rabbits are cute, except when they are not. Tiny Bunny is a pretty terrifying experience, especially considering that it's a visual novel. The story is experienced by Anton – an outsider who just moved into a small Siberian village with an unnerving history. The forest around it is filled with deadly forces, against which every inhabitant seems to be powerless. It's up to you to figure out what the hell is happening. Tiny Bunny has a really captivating and creepy storyline, with twists that you don't see coming. So far, 3 out of 5 episodes are out, and they are just getting better and better.

Forewarned

Lastly, we have a popular survival game that you can play in co-op with 3 friends. Forewarned puts you in an archeological team tasked with descending into the ancient Egyptian ruins. The tombs are filled with treasures and unique relics, but there are also evil forces lurking around. Luckily, you will have a lot of tools at your disposal, and with radar, you can even guide your team from the surface through the deadly labyrinths. Forewarned also has high replayability, as levels are procedurally-generated and never look the same. In short, this is one of the best new co-op horror games and a breath of fresh air to the genre.
