RuneScape Classic Is Coming to Steam Next Month

Updated on

It's time to venture back to Lumbridge, friends. Old School RuneScape is making a nostalgic debut on Steam next month. As of February 24th, players with both old and new accounts will be able to pick up where they left off in the timeless classic. Of course, it seems only fitting that this comes to light after we spoke about RuneScape in our MMORPG kingpins of 2021.

The newer version of RuneScape made its Steam launch a little over a year ago, and while it proved to be a success among players — it didn't quite touch the hearts of old school users. But now, developer Jagex will be bringing the 2013 classic to the enormous Steam platform.

Last year, Old School RuneScape managed to raise the bar and break its record for concurrent players. With an average of 157,000 users throwing back to the nostalgic world, the double-decade old game hit the spotlight like never before. And, to be fair, that's incredibly impressive for a game that sticks to its guns of outdated graphics and MMORPG elements. Even still, players have been digging up old accounts for years now — and RuneScape is only continuing to branch out and secure new players worldwide.

RuneScape will be celebrating 20 fantastic years in 2021 — and we're crossing everything in the hopes it'll continue to soar for another, too. The fan base is evidently still hooked on the frequent updates and premium material, and Jagex are only looking to evolve on the world we all know and love. Plus, as a free-to-play game with minimal subscription services being shoved down your throat — RuneScape sits as an honest breath of fresh air within the market.

You can pick up Old School RuneScape on February 24th on Steam.
