Rumours Suggest Sly Cooper Could Be Returning

The long-running Sly Cooper series could very well be gearing up for a fifth instalment for PlayStation 5, according to a thread of rumours and credible insiders.

It's been a little over eight years since Sanzaru Games buddied up with Sucker Punch to bring us the fourth leg to the acclaimed Sly Cooper journey, and to say fans are getting a little inpatient over a fifth would only be an understatement. Because the fact is — people are starting to feel the urge to step back into the raccoon's thieving little boots. Sucker Punch, on the other hand, has yet to announce any form of official return to the series, with no evidence to suggest it even being worked on.

But that's Sucker Punch. Elsewhere, rumours have started to spread about a potential revival, with Sly Cooper 5 being the current talk of the town on a few social handles. One Nick Baker, who has been known for leaking some pretty solid information in the past, has gone on to give his two cents on the matter. Specifically, when asked about a new Sly Cooper game and its current whearabouts, the insider simply said “from what I've been told it's early. Quite early,”

It's something, right?

Okay, so it's not the news every fan of the series wants to hear, knowing that a new chapter could still be a ways off yet. But it's something, right? To know that an insider has shed light on the development of the game as a whole. And while it isn't slyly creeping over on the other side of 2022 — it is making its way. Rather slowly — but making its way nevertheless. So, take from that what you will.

As for when the next Sly Cooper game will release — that really is anybody's guess. Ours, unfortunately, would have to be pushing towards 2023 at the earliest. But that's just us. We'll have to hang fire and see what Sucker Punch roll out over the next few months.

Sly Cooper debuted in 2002 on PlayStation 2. Since then, the series has garnered a global reputation and managed to span three sequels. You can pick up The Sly Collection, which consists of the original trilogy, on PlayStation 3. Or if you're looking to delve a little deeper into the rumours — you could always follow the chain here.
