Resident Evil Village: Winter is Coming from New Perspectives

Resident Evil Village received its winter expansion on October 28th, 2022. The update ushered in a variety of new stories and scenarios. However, most significantly, the Gold Edition opened up a third-person mode. The third-person dynamic has been used in previous offerings, such as Resident Evil 4. However, it’s the first time players can see the Village from this perspective.

Why did the developers at Capcom add a third-person mode? Demand. Players had created their own tools and mods to create third-person experiences in the game. That was enough to tell the executives at Capcom HQ that an update was needed. Cue the Gold Edition.

The Winters’ Expansion adds a few new chapters to the story of Ethan Winters. One of the most notable chapters is the return of his daughter, Rose Winters. Now grown up, Rose returns to the village on a mission to learn more about her life and magical powers. Her story (Shadows of Rose) takes place in the Realm of Consciousness, so you can expect a slew of surreal scenarios.

Sit on Ethan’s Shoulder

The other update players will notice is the fact you can fight your way through the game looking over Ethan’s shoulder. Third-person mode is favored by certain developers and players. One advantage to third-person views, in some people’s opinion, is that it’s easier to control the character. Being able to see the whole character offers the player a better sense of movement and space.

Another reason some people prefer third-person mode is the added dimensions it can create. For example, when you can see the character, you see how they walk, their mannerisms, and their body type. All of these things can add extra layers to the character and, in turn, the game. With this being the case, it’s also interesting when something isn’t shown. It creates a sense of mystery and intrigue.

That’s the case with Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition. We’ve never been shown Ethan’s face and that won’t change just because there’s a third-person mode. That’s a conscious decision by the designers, which is interesting. Why can’t we see his face? This burning question gives us more reason to play because maybe Ethan’s face holds the key to unlocking a mystery. We may never know, but it’s fun to speculate.

The Village Welcomes Mac Players

The final thing to come out of the Resident Evil Village Showcase is that Mac users have been welcomed into the fray. The Village has only been open to PC and console gamers since its release in 2021. Like third-person mode, Mac compatibility is a result of player demand. The evolution of Mac gaming over the last decade or so is notable. With Apple making true 3D graphics and faster processes standard in 2007, games could run as intended.

Subsequent improvements have allowed increasingly complex games to play out on Macs. Indeed, you can go to a Mac games download page and try epic fantasy RPGs, real-time battles, MMORTS sagas, and much more. Now, Resident Evil Village is available on Mac.

The game is built on the RE Engine and is with M1 and M2 Macs running macOS Monterey or macOS Ventura. So, what we’ve got now is a situation where Resident Evil Village is available from new perspectives. One over Ethan’s shoulder and one from a Mac computer. That should be enough to keep fans of the franchise entertained until the next update.
