Resident Evil 3 Remake Releases in 2020

Capcom has officially confirmed the release of the remake for Resident Evil 3. During the presentation of the Playstation State of Play live stream, a trailer dropped showing the remake of the 20-year-old survival horror sequel. Capcom has also announced alongside the release of the game will be an asymmetrical multiplayer spin-off, Resident Evil: Resistance. Formerly known as Project Resistance, this will be available with Resident Evil 3 Remake purchases. The game will be released on 3rd April 2020.

The trailer shows a reimagining of the game which was released in 1999. Taking place in the familiar setting of Raccoon City, we get to see Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliviera as well as the main antagonist of the 1999 game, Nemesis. It is suspected that Jill and Carlos, the latter of whom has gone through minor design changes, will play a dual protagonist role. This would function very similar to Leon and Clare in the successful Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Rumors of the game's existence and possible began to surface a few days prior to the announcement. A recent datamine of Playstation Network had discovered seemingly official covers and artworks. The game was then expected to be announced at the upcoming The Game Awards. Though, many have speculated that the leak of the artwork may have moved to the Playstation State of Play Presentation.

Resident Evil: Resistance was teased originally as Project Resistance. This was to be a 4v1 asymmetrical co-op multiplayer game set to be based in the “Resident Evil” Universe. Four players will take control of four humans and play as survivors. Their objective is to escape the facility as they run around trying to stay alive and work together. One player will be the Mastermind, the one in charge of the facility, who aims to murder the survivors. The Mastermind can track the survivors around the facility with the help of security cameras. The beta of Resident Evil: Resistance is expected to drop in Japan sometime next month.

The Collector's Edition of Resident Evil 3 Remake will consist of an 11 inch Jill Valentine Figure, an official artbook, the digital soundtrack of Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil: Resistance and Raccoon City Survival Map.

Capcom's Resident Evil 2 Remake was nominated for The Game Awards 2019 for Game of The Year Award which is “recognizing a game that delivers the absolute best experience across all creative and technical fields.” The other nominees under this category include Control, Death Stranding, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Resident Evil 3 Remake will be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC on April 3, 2o2o.
