Red Dead Redemption 2 Wins Steam’s Game of the Year 2020

Updated on

Users have flocked to Steam to submit their votes for 2020's Game of the Year, and now the results have been revealed. Although backing a two-year-old title, Red Dead Redemption 2 has in fact claimed the trophy for the game of the year. Of course, as we all know — the Rockstar icon launched way back in 2018 on ex-gen consoles. However, seeing as the PC edition only dropped in December 2019, it sort of made sense for it to be included in the running for 2020's podium spot.

Standing tall and proud with the biggest award Steam has to offer, the Rockstar gem also managed to pick up a second award for “Outstanding Story-Rich Game”, too. That's two out of the possible nine categories that Red Dead Redemption 2 walked away with. Even with some pretty big rivals brushing shoulders with the Western hit; Red Dead still managed to steal the show with its enticing tale and well-rounded characters.

And the runners-up are…

Standing next to the Rockstar winner as runners-up was Death Stranding, Hades, DOOM Eternal and Fall Guys. Although each rightfully deserving of a place in the Hall of Fame; we can't deny Rockstar a place after producing gold with the Western prequel. And, it's not like this is the first time Red Dead Redemption 2 has made an appearance at an awards show, either. Let's not forget the fact that Rockstar also brought home three other Game of the Year awards from Fun & Serious Game Festival, Italian Video Game Awards, and SXSW, too. There's those, as well as an entire spool of separate awards for best soundtrack, narrative and art direction.

It may be a couple of years old, but Rockstar are most definitely still soaking up the glory from their 2018 smash-hit. All that's left to do is applaud the triple-A developer and cross our fingers for a potential sequel to the cherished timeline. But hey — let's just leave Rockstar to savour this outstanding victory. For now, anyway.
