Project ME: Everything We Know

Pathea Games and Nuverse have lifted the veil on a new extension for the My Time IP; an open world life simulation game titled Project ME. Like My Time at Portia and My Time at Sandrock, the third instalment will allow you to govern your own idyllic town and build it from the grassy roots up. However, rather than replicate the assets from the My Time saga, Project ME will feature “new storylines, lores, and roleplaying.” So, a traditional My Time game, but with a fresh coat of paint, basically.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Nuverse on this new project,” said Pathea Games vice president Aaron Deng in a press release. “Our team is dedicated to expanding the My Time IP as well as committed to sharing the joyful and memorable experiences of our existing titles with a broader audience. However, it is important to note that Project ME has a new independent team outside of our My Time at Sandrock development team, ensuring that progress towards the Sandrock launch remains unaffected.”

So, with all the introductory spiel out in the open, what more do you need to know about the so-called Project ME? Well, here's everything we've been able to collect based on the details provided by both Pathea Games and Nuverse.

What Is Project ME?

In short, Project ME is an upcoming life simulation and city-building game by Pathea Games. As an extension of the My Time IP, the title will accomodate a narrative and gameplay structure similar to both Portia and Sandrock, only with a luscious oasis setting and “greater degrees of customization, interior decor,” and “homestead construction.” So, My Time at Sandrock, only with a few technical enhancements and several additional bells and whistles to boot.

From what we've caught of the chapter so far, Project ME will feature both a single-player and co-op mode, and will boast a “player-driven ecosystem”—a concept that will let players mold the shape of the game's world and its platau of features throughout the development process.

Story

It goes like this: you're the mayor of a quaint oasis town. In a true city-building fashion, such a town can only prosper under an umbrella of your guidance and leadership. To this end, you will need to rise from the roots and birth your community, and not to mention establish lifelong connections with its citizens to help further evolve research, resources, and architectural blueprints.

“The brand new title will feature new stories in the “My Time” universe, alongside playable NPCs that are much more involved with your gameplay experience,” the blurb adds. “Employ your fellow NPCs and learn more about their skill sets as you embark on leading this town as mayor!”

Gameplay

Gameplay-wise, it's hard to see Project ME straying all that far from its signature sandbox style. Matter of fact, we already know that there'll be a workstation for you to utilize as a stepping stone to help build, customize, and govern a town. As mentioned in an earlier passage, these go-to mechanics will not only boast more space to flex your creative muscles, but allow you to return time and time again with a whole new vision and all the tools to make it a shimmering reality.

It's a life simulation game, too, so expect plenty of social networking and community building. Because apparently, Project ME will feature various story arcs, each of which will relate to one of your town's citizens. It'll be your role, as its acting mayor, to develop the town and govern it in any way you see fit. Oh, and not to mention fend off any potential intruders through the power of classic sword-based combat. That'll be returning, also.

What's new in Project ME is its multiplayer mode, which essentially allows players to travel to other user-created worlds and aid their progression, either by building new assets, or furthering the town's communal bond. So, expect more than a lone venture this time around.

Development

Pathea Games may have only announced Project ME to a global audience earlier this month, but the fact is, news was already being passed around back in the beginning of 2023. Thanks to its social media and Discord extensions, certain key details were already available to preview. That was, providing you already had a connection with Pathea Games and the My Time IP, of course.

“In the last closed playtest held in Project ME‘s official Discord, we’ve built a positive community and ever-growing relationship with our players, and we saw a flood of in-game screenshot shares that gave us confidence our fans loved the aesthetics and landscape sceneries but also the town management feature, which is brand new,” publishing director Keanu Ye added.

As it stands, there is no release window in mind. That said, with the game hosting several playtests over the coming months, it's safe to say that we'll be catching on to some additional details soon. Will it launch in 2023? Unlikely. But then, never say never, either.

So, is there any footage to help flesh out this new and improved concept? Yes, yes there is! If you're interested in seeing the various mechanisms in motion, then you can check out the alpha preview in the video embedded above.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Unfortunately, Pathea Games hasn't confirmed the platforms that will be eligible for the Project ME treatment yet. That said, if it's to do with the My Time IP, then it's sure to be available on all major platforms at launch. And while we don't know when that launch will be, we can say that alpha playtests will be available to enrol in right up until June 20, 2023.

Of course, as we're still a ways off yet, it comes as no real surprise that Pathea Games has kept things like special editions and pre-order bonuses on a tight leash. If and when they do decide to make the announcement, you'll no doubt find all the details spread out on its site here.

If you're looking to keep tabs on Pathea Games' latest sandbox title, then be sure to check in with the official social feed for additional updates here. Providing there are no molehills to scramble over, we'll be sure to let you know just as soon as the release date comes to light. Until then, it's over to you, Pathea.
