Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet Officially Announced

Updated on

What is already a thrilling year for Nintendo Switch users has just got even better. Yesterday's Pokémon Presents just unveiled two new games that will be released for Nintendo Switch in late 2022. Yes, you heard it right, both Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be released late this year. As If Pokémon Legends: Arceus wasn't already good enough, now you have two more games to dive into.

Both games will feature an open world with a variety of towns and wilderness that is said to have no borders. As noted by the website, “you'll be able to see Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streets-all over!”. For right now we just have a glimpse of what that might look like through the Announcement Trailer, but it is intriguing.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet | Announcement Trailer

In the trailer, we can see some of our past favorites like Pikachu, Psyduck, and even Meowth. These are just some familiar faces I can make out, so don't discount what other new Pokémon will be introduced alongside these games.

It really looks like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are offering two new revolutionary games to the series with these titles. This is the first truly open-world type Pokémon game we are seeing in the series and it doesn't look like it will disappoint.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Starters

Three new Gen 9 starter Pokémon have also been revealed. Trainers will have to decide at the start of the game which Pokémon will be their companion throughout the journey. Here is all the information we have on them now, so you can plan ahead.

  • Sprigatito – An attention-seeking Grass Cat Pokémon
  • Fuecoco – A laid-back Fire Croc Pokémon
  • Quaxly – An earnest and tidy Water type Duckling Pokémon

This is all the insight we have into these new Pokémon but hopefully, we'll get to see how they evolve in the months to come. Personally, I am going with Quaxly as he appears to be a fierce sidekick that is ready for battle.

So what are your thoughts on the new Pokémon games? Also, tell us which Pokémon starter you're going to pick in the comments below or on our socials here.
