PlayStation Plus Announces Free Weekend

PlayStation Plus will be hosting a free access weekend on August 27, allowing non-subscribers of the service to soak up the benefits of online gaming and most of its perks.

PlayStation has confirmed that, from August 27, those not subscribed to its subscription-based platform will have full access to its perks for a brief period of time. This does, of course, include access to online multiplayer, in which a subscription is usually needed in order to both play and interact with other users.

There is a slight catch to all of this, though. Although technically non-subscribers will have the keys to unlock online multiplayer in the vast majority of modern games, this doesn't mean they'll also be able to reap the additional benefits PlayStation Plus has to offer.

And that means…

To put it short, players will not be able to download the free games that returning subscribers receive on a monthly basis. And in this case, that's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, Little Nightmares, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon. So, not quite the full access some would've hoped for. Nevertheless, it's a fantastic opportunity to soak up a lot of the perks without having to fork out any additional funds.

You can pick up your subscription to PlayStation Plus for as little as $9.99 a month, with tiers ranging from Essential to Deluxe. Those subscribed to the Essential tier can access online multiplayer and three downloadable games that release each month. Those involved in the higher tiers, however, will receive access to a cloud-based gaming service, which includes hundreds of downloadable PS3, PS4, and PS5 games.

So, will you be making use of the free weekend? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
