PlayStation Boss Jim Ryan Says PS4 Will Continue To Receive Great Games & Support

Updated on

As a much brighter horizon shines down on the PlayStation 5 and leaves its predecessor in the shadows, Sony fans are scratching heads over the future plans for the PS4. Of course, nobody wants to get left behind, and with the fancy new hardware flying off of the shelves, we're wondering if the hourglass has been flipped on the PS4's support life and exclusive game catalogue.

In light of these concerns from PS4 owners, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has indeed shared words of comfort to any doubter who has yet to transition to the new hardware. In a talk with Edge Magazine, Jim Ryan was asked whether the PS4's one-hundred-million player base will still receive support. And, thankfully, the PlayStation boss pitched in and put many minds at ease.

PlayStation boss Jim Ryan discusses plans for PlayStation 4:

“We do feel that we have a responsibility to that very large community, and an opportunity to carry on making great PS4 games for as long as the need is there,” Jim Ryan said. “And I think that is the right thing to do. It’s the rational thing to do, and I think you will see a tail with PS4 that you did not see with PS3. But that said, as time passes, you’re going to see more and more emphasis on PS5 development and the PS5 SKU will be the lead SKU.”

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan confirms that the PS4 will continue to receive “great games”.

It only makes sense that the production on the PS5 marches forward as technology evolves. But, at least we know for certain that while the next-gen powers on, the PS4 will still receive just as much love and affection. This means that while so many exclusive titles will be released to PS5, PS4 owners still stand a chance at bagging next-level games for older hardware. So, that seems like good news all around for PS4 owners.

In other news, the PlayStation 5 continues to hold the lead over the rival Xbox Series X in regards to sales. With Christmas creeping up on us, the next-gen kit has been selling out on a global scale. Even with the Microsoft hardware boasting just as many perks to the Xbox Series X, consumers are still swaying more towards the Sony toy. But we'll be sure to get the latest stats when the year is at an end. In the meantime, however, we can rest assured that Sony still has our backs.

You can pick up a PlayStation 5 from any major retailer. But we suggest you bag one as soon as possible while stocks last. It's getting rather crazy out there.
