Pax Dei: Everything We Know

Pax Dei is a medieval-based MMORPG with open-world elements in mind. It appears to be heavily emphasizing the social aspect of gaming. As described by its developers, who are themselves, former Eve Online developers, Pax Dei focuses on the social constructs behind the MMORPG. There also appears to be a focus on player-driven economies as well as gameplay elements. This is sure to manifest itself in exciting ways. All that being said, here is Pax Dei: Everything We Know.

What is Pax Dei?

One of the core questions that players looking into this game might want to know is, what is Pax Dei? What differentiates it from other titles in the genre? It hopes to accomplish this in a few ways. For starters, the game places a heavy emphasis on the social aspect of the game. This makes it different from other MMORPGs, where players are essentially able to play the game solo without the need of others. Having this as a core philosophy in mind is sure to shape the game into something exciting.

It would appear that players will be able to build their own lands. This opens up the game for many opportunities for communities to form around it. Added to this is the idea of a player-driven economy. Which in and of itself will cause players to flock to certain things. For example, if someone wants to carve out their own corner of the world and participate in crafting, or so forth, this game fully allows for that playstyle. To close, Pax Dei seems to be taking a tried and true old-school approach to the social systems within the game.

A Living Breathing World

First, Pax Dei seems to have its vision and priorities in order regarding the world. Secondly, this is further emphasized in not only the description of the game but its systems as well. Third, the world in which the game is set itself seems to be player-driven. Thus, players have to tend to the areas around them to have an influence on the world. This is great as it reinforces the player's actions with tangible consequences in-game. Finally, there is a draw to exploration in the game, which former developers of Eve Online are no doubt knowledgeable about.

Basically, all of these points are made toward the social aspect of the game. Finally, players will have a world that they can get lost in. As a result, it is hoped that players will log in more time into the world. Before this can happen, however, it remains to be seen how much developmental resources will be allocated to creating these systems. At any rate, players of the MMORPG genre have long been awaiting a game world to get lost in. One that emphasizes what it means to exist in a fantasy world. Therefore, if Pax Dei is to succeed in this aspect, it will have to create a tangible world that players will want to live in.

A Cohesive Community

One of the most important aspects of MMORPG game design is the community surrounding the game, as the games are Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games. Therefore, a point has to be made to create communities around them. The developers have apparently been made presently aware of this and already shaping their game to be something that encourages these types of communities. It also hopes to do this through its realization of the Clan system. The Clan system, as far as we can tell, appears to be much like the Guild system from other MMORPGs.

It would appear that no matter your skill set, there will be something for you to do in the world. This is great as it allows the gameplay to vary greatly from player to player. This will cause players to go to specific ends in order for other players to craft their items or craft them themselves. This is fantastic for player identities as it allows you to carve out your own niche in the game world itself. This aspect is at the heart of what makes these games so phenomenal. In conclusion, a healthy emphasis on communities within Pax Dei is sure to help its longevity when the MMORPG releases.

A Promising Future

Pax Dei has an emphasis being made on player progression and agency. This game hopes to bridge the gap between the more social-driven older MMORPGs. It hopes to do this in a number of ways, including systems that aid the player in creating their own narratives throughout the world. Emergent gameplay is also a key factor in this discussion, as players will be able to form their own worlds. They can do this in a number of ways, forming alliances, aiding their Clans, and much more. It is hoped that this will go a long way to keep the game thriving. After all, communities are the lifeblood of the MMORPG genre. It is only through this lens and the in-game systems that we facilitate our social relationships through the power of gaming.

Elements of Development

Having this in mind during development is a fantastic sign. This means that the developers aren't only focused on making a great game but one that rewards the players for playing with one another. This is the strongest benefit to MMORPGs like this. And while many titles in the genre have been content with being games that essentially can be played solo. This does not appear to be the case with Pax Dei. This is made evident by the developer's commitment to creating worlds within the world that they create.

Meaning everything from player-run economies to individual actions will all matter in their own way. In addition, a sense of agency is a factor that, to some, has been slowly dwindling in the genre. And Pax Dei hopes to rectify this through its use of socially-assisting systems within the game. For these reasons, as well as others, we highly anticipate Pax Dei and its release and hope that it makes a bright new future in the MMORPG space.
