Nintendo Direct September 2021: Pre-Show Predictions

Published

 on

Nintendo has announced another chapter to its ongoing Direct showcase, with the next leg of the journey set for this afternoon (3 P.M. ET / 11 P.M. BST). Ahead of the show, fans are beginning to wonder what might just sprout up during the 40-minute set.

While Nintendo hardly scratched the surface when announcing the next online event, there has been some speculation over on the community front. And while no games were explored or given a devoted spotlight beforehand, players did assemble to discuss the possibilities of what's to come later today.

Breath of the Wild 2 is still in everyone's thoughts. Could a release date finally be announced?

Let's acknowledge the elephant in the room…

Of course, the biggest title that most people are clutching at straws for is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, which Nintendo has kept under wraps for a fair while now. And although we've been given a few specs of footage to absorb — we still haven't had a confirmed release date. So, we're crossing our fingers on that one.

Outside of Hyrule, words have also started gravitating towards the likes of Mario Kart 9, Bayonetta 3, as well as updates surrounding Splatoon 3 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And considering some of these are, in fact, due to launch relatively soon, it wouldn't be a major surprise if the Nintendo Direct showcase served up a bit of time to each of the above. But that's just a wild guess, of course.

But anyway, while Nintendo was able to confirm that the primary focus of the event was to delve into Switch games — many have started to wonder whether the mysterious N64 controller will also make a spontaneous appearance or not. Although the diagrams and images for the controller aren't due to arrive until tomorrow, some believe the kit could very well make an early reveal later today. But you can pretty much take that one with a huge grain of salt. We're crossing our fingers regardless.

Splatoon 3 release date? Anyone?

Nintendo 64 controllers and Switch games aside, today's Direct event should be a pretty jam-packed offering. Here's hoping we get enough release dates and footage to keep us ticking over into 2022.

What are you expecting to be announced at Nintendo Direct later today? Let us know over on our socials here. You can watch the event on any major streaming platform. We'll be covering the show in case you miss anything. So, sit back and relax. Nintendo Direct is on the move!
