Tekken 8

Bandai Namco has revealed a new gameplay trailer for Tekken 8 at The Game Awards. The trailer featured in-engine footage of the game's new combat system and gave a sneak peek at some redesigned characters. The trailer also showed off the game’s plot, which continues the never-ending conflict between Kazuya Mishima and his son, Jin Kazama.

The opening scene of the trailer shows the young Jin Kazama, the lead character, having a flashback to his early days. He then reminisces about his happy moments with his mother before moving on to the present with his antagonistic father. Finally, the trailer features mayhem and chaos as Jin prepares to battle against his father.

The teaser also reveals the Tekken 8 cast, with characters like King, Marshall, and Paul returning to the upcoming game. In addition, each character now has a unique new appearance compared to earlier games, thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The gameplay trailer reveals the inevitable confrontation between father and son, featuring a massive battle on the ground and in the air. Jin fights off his father, but he only focuses on his mother and his failure to win the battle.

The trailer has a big surprise character for us. Jin’s mother, Jun Kazama, appears in the video. She supports Jin while adopting a new model and appearance and bestowing him with an unidentified power. Jun died during the events of the mainline games and has not been a playable character since Tekken 2. It appears that Tekken 8 will both give Jin a significant amount of screen time and resolve some of these unresolved plot strands.

Bandai Namco officially announced Tekken 8 in September during the PlayStation State of Play event. Tekken 8 is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The developers have yet to reveal a release date.
