New Tales from the Borderlands Receives Mixed Feedback Following Gamescom Announcement

New Tales from the Borderlands is en route. Unfortunately, it might not come with the welcome home party Gearbox is expecting.

New Tales from the Borderlands, the follow-up to 2014's episodic adventure from Telltale Games, will arrive on October 21, 2022. This is, of course, the first we've heard anything about the game since its official unveiling a couple of years ago. The sad part, however, is that it might not be the sequel fans would've liked, thanks to Gearbox Software ditching Telltale in order to pursue its own vision.

The fact that the new instalment isn't being developed by the same capable hands has, of course, sparked a round of mixed feelings. And while the sequel clearly boasts its iconic humor and signature comic book art style, many streamers will reinforce the comments about it being a far cry from its Telltale-led original.

Eagle-eyed fans are also slamming the sequel for employing microtransactions and an in-game currency, something Gearbox has forcefully slumped on players' shoulders without any word of warning. Take into account the lack of legacy characters and settings, and you've got yourself a pretty underwhelming announcement. An announcement that, with all due respect, isn't winning over any fans of the Telltale debut.

You can pick up New Tales from the Borderlands from October 21 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC. For more information on the latest vault hunters and their conquests for loot, you can check in with Gearbox over on the official social handle here.

So, what's your take? Will you be picking up New Tales of the Borderlands later this year? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
