New Games On Steam: Early May

Updated on

New Games on Steam series is back, and this week is a particularly strong one. We take a look at addicting platformers, an emotional tale of survival, a savage beat-em-up, and a refreshing action-adventure game.

Change: A Homeless Survival Experience

To kick things off, we have a unique survival game that's also sprinkled with roguelike elements. In it, you will play as a homeless man, who is accompanied by a helpful dog. Your goal is to escape the cycle of poverty, but as you will see, this is anything but easy. The game is filled with emotional moments and does its best to capture the feeling of hopelessness, making you empathize with the character.

WarriOrb

Next, we have a story about a powerful demonic figure who became trapped in a tiny body. WarriOrb is an imaginative and comical 2D platformer, that can easily impress you with smart use of camera angles and graphics. At times, it reminded me of Rayman, although the game is more difficult and darker. WarriOrb also features some challenging physics-based puzzles, so if you are a casual player this might not be the one for you. However, if you are up for the challenge WarriOrb will deliver an engaging and thrilling experience.

Knock Harder

Knock Harder is an action-adventure game inspired by Inception. In it, you will have to explore your surroundings and look for clues if you are in a dream or real life. If you find that you are dreaming, the only way out is to kill yourself. However, if you make a mistake it's game over. As if that's not enough, you are under attack from mind-controlling aliens that will complicate everything. Are you able to wake up?

Levelhead

Rather than just being one in the sea of Indie platformers, Levelhead stands out as it also lets you create and share your own levels with the world. The editor is very fun and intuitive and lets you create fairly complex levels easily. Furthermore, the game features a great soundtrack and cartoonish graphics that's easy on the system. If you love Mario Maker, Levelhead will be right up your alley.

Streets of Rage 4

Pop them knuckles – it's time for a fist party! Streets of Rage 4 is a revitalization of the classic beat-em-up from the '90s. Powered by a badass soundtrack and epic fights, it's set to rival its predecessors, and then some. Streets of Rage 4 lets you choose between 17 characters with a distinct set of abilities to unleash the fury on beautiful hand-drawn levels. But, the ultimate fun begins with multiplayer, as you can invite your friends to play Co-op or PVP battles. It seems that all ingredients are here to make this one of the better beat-em-ups of the last few years.
