New Donkey Kong Game Coming to Switch, Insider Says

Nintendo Direct is well past its sell-by date, and yet, Switch fans are still lingering on the possibility of seeing a Donkey Kong revival for 2021. The bad news is, neither Nintendo nor the Donkey team has shed so much as a smidgen of light on the idea since it first started traversing the radar a few years back. The good news, however, is that the hopes of seeing it come to fruition are still burning high from a select few insiders, notably Zippo, who recently published a spool of findings in a blog post.

“This game has apparently been in development for over 3 years now, and if I were a betting man, I would've absolutely had thought it would've been at E3, but it wasn't,” Zippo wrote in a relatively short post on the matter. Following on from that, the insider went on to say that Donkey Kong, as a whole, is “in line to follow Mario in Nintendo's push for their game franchises to become multimedia juggernauts.”

It's about that time again!

There's a lot more than a game in the pipeline. Apparently.

Toying with the idea of Donkey Kong becoming a fully-fledged animation, Zippo went on to say that the franchise will be receiving either a movie or series adaptation. But as for a concrete date for release, the blogger refused to put two cents on it, leaving us wallowing in the dark, with only a lukewarm sign-off and a “you'll be hearing more sooner rather than later” to close. Even still, it's a hope worth hanging on to for now — even just to tide us over while Nintendo prep things from behind the curtain. And who knows — perhaps we'll see Donkey Kong and friends make a return this year after all. Fingers crossed.
