5 Most Anticipated 3D Platformer Games Coming Out in 2023
Whenever the history of gaming is written, platformer games will always have a special place in the author’s words. It’s been such a wild ride all these years, from when we’d spend hours at the arcade playing the latest platformer to now, when platformer games have evolved so much it’s hard to comprehend. Before, platformer games would have two-dimensional sidescrolling gameplay. Now, most franchises have evolved to using 2.5D or three-dimensional sandboxing technology. And even though 3D platformer games could take some getting used to, there’s no denying their role in elevating the platforming gaming experience
So, instead of 2D sidescrolling, you can now explore 3D action adventures and whole open-world sandboxes. There are also plenty of 3D platformer games to go around, including some we can’t wait to get our hands on this year. Got your wishlist nearby? Here are the five most anticipated 3D platformer games coming out.
At first sight, Schim looks like a game curated from out of this world. Well, the concepts are of this world, but hardly anything you’d deem usual. It’s a game about hopping from one shadow to the next. So it uses aspects like light and animation to conjure up some interesting simulations. The aesthetic, for starters, is pretty unique. It’s lively, abstract, and pretty fun to navigate.
In case you’re wondering, a “schim” is a shadowy creature that you’ll be playing as. It has a funny story too—that it’s separated from its owner. So, you’ll be solving some interesting puzzles and evading obstacles to finally be reunited once again with your host. Although the exact release date hasn’t been made clear, it seems certain that Schim will indeed hit our screens sometime later this year on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, PC, and macOS platforms.

4. Clive ‘N’ Wrench
Take on the roles of Clive, the rabbit, and Wrench, the literal monkey on his back, as they hurtle their way through time and space. To make the hops and jumps, they use a 1950s refrigerator that comes in handy in their mission to thwart the evil Dr. Daucus’ plans. It’s quite a light-hearted story adventure that has been in the works since the first announcement in 2015. Fortunately, it’s finally been confirmed that the game will launch just a few weeks later, on February 24, 2023.
Explore up to 11 distinct, vibrant worlds, each with its own time period. Collect key items like ancient stones, pocket watches, and more across each level to help you on your quest. 3. Another Crab’s Treasure
There isn’t much we know about the upcoming Another Crab’s Treasure 3D platformer. Especially since the first announcement was only just made at the Indie World Presentation showcase. However, rumors have it that the full game will finally get to us sometime in spring 2023.
So, what’s Another Crab’s Treasure about? Well, it’s a story about a hermit crab called Kril who happens to have lost his shell. He’s then forced to embark on a treasure hunt so he can buy back his shell. Along his journey, he’s forced to wear trash for protection since the world around him is on the verge of collapse.
Another Crab’s Treasure is set in a vibrant underwater kingdom. The crustacean theme looks amazing. But don’t be fooled by its bright and colorful undertones. Another Crab’s Treasure is actually a Souls-like game that features tough difficulty levels. Besides using trash as your weapons and armor, you’ll also need to master several fast-paced underwater acrobatics and unleash lethal attacks on enemies to survive.
