An orbiting space station will help you descend to a hostile alien planet, where the terrains are all hand-crafted. Once you land on the planet, build tools and structures, gather valuable resources, hunt and be hunted by the wildlife, and if you heroically survive, you just get to make it back to the space station. Have fun upgrading your station, invest your time in building vehicles and vehicle parts, unlock new technologies, and improve your spacesuit.

More About Icarus:

This is a co-op survival game called Icarus, (that will be on PC) where you can invite your friends to visit your space station, plan a mission to a biome, and a list of resources you will need to bring back by a deadline. If you so desire, have up to eight players in a session together. If you prefer the challenge of playing solo, put your skills to the test.

The in-game experience will make you feel more involved in the planet’s environment (with the ongoing changing of weather events, caves being open or closed, and resources appearing in different places on other missions. Just like if you are in space for real, you will need to stay hydrated and maintain your oxygen supply in the game. Build bridges, roads, and various planetary structures. Travel through the snow, deserts, mountains, and hunt wildlife for food or defend yourself. You would not hunt wildlife on an alien planet just for the sport, would you?

Icarus - Official Trailer | Summer of Gaming

The first part of Dean Hall’s Icarus will take place in a forest biome. It looks like August is no longer the release month for the anticipated game, but with the announced delay by Hall, he mentioned that the game needs a “little bit more time to make to be the most awesome. To cheer us up about the delay, starting August 28, a series of beta weekends are coming to Steam. All pre-orders will gain access to beta weekends from August 28, 2021. Learn to hunt and build on the base in the beta version Forest. Torrential Storms will be disabled, leaving the only biome available the forest.

Other Dates:

  • September 11-12: The Torrential Storms will be enabled in the forest biomes. Be sure to have your fire whacker and repair tool available, if lightning strikes on your base
  • September 25-26: The Arctic biome will be tested with various creatures
  • October 9-10: There will be desert animals and blizzards
  •  October 23-24: You will run errands for the corporate and be rewarded for your troubles
  • November 6-7: This is the final beta weekend where more details will be available in the future.

Hall is mostly known for creating his zombie apocalypse PC game, DayZ and with Icarus, this could be more astonishing. Icarus, developed and soon to be published by Rocketwerks, is being compared to Escape from Tarkov.

If you die on the planet by a creature, another player can heal you. If you involuntarily run out of oxygen, someone can revive you. Just be sure not to miss your ride back at the space station, because the ticking clock is based off of your dropship’s orbital launch window and your dropship will does not mind leaving anyone behind. If you get left behind, that is when the character you played with is dead and you lose all of your valuables from your session. Try to continuously be a patient gamer entering the dropship with that news.
