Well, it seems that bubbling fans of the Wizarding World might just have to holster their wands for a while. Sadly, Warner Bros. has reached out to Twitter to explain that the highly-anticipated Hogwarts Legacy will be delayed until next year. Although not stating a specific reason for the year-long delay, it does seem to be a smart strategy to assure maximum quality is met. Plus, with Harry Potter being a household name in the fantasy sphere, we believe that time should definitely be flexible for development. After all, we’ve seen what releasing a game early can do to the market. Not mentioning any title in specific — but you get the picture.
“We would like to thank fans from around the world on the tremendous reaction to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games label,” Warner Bros. Interactive said. “Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us, so we are giving the game the time it needs.”

“Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022.”
Although not the best of news, it does seem to be the smartest approach. Of course, fans of Harry Potter have been begging Warner Bros. to recreate a fleshed-out RPG of the Wizarding World for decades. Sadly, we’ve only ever really seen mobile spin-offs that rely on microtransactions for revenue, and lousy knock-off titles that most fans tend to banish. And yet, after Hogwarts Legacy was announced back in September, fans were quick to praise it for its ambition and fresh take on the platform.
Set in the late 1800s, players will enrol as a customizable witch or wizard and attend Hogwarts like never before. And, like the movies, you’ll be assigned to a house, as well as have to attend classes and tackle various challenges during your school years. So, basically what every fan of the franchise has wanted since 2001. Yes — it’s really happening. But not yet. Soon, though. Maybe.
We aren’t overly sure when we’ll see another sneak preview for the game — but we’re keeping a close eye on it. Until that time comes, however, we’ll be sticking to the movies and books as per usual. You can check in on the updates of Hogwarts Legacy via the Twitter handle here. All that’s left to do is wish the developer the best of luck in recapturing the magic. It’s quite the reputation to uphold, eh?
Hogwarts Legacy will release in 2022 on Xbox One, Series X/S, PlayStation 4/5 and Windows. Yes, that’s right. It’s on ex-gen consoles, too. Thanks, Warner.
