With Halloween fast approaching, many players are reaching out to find the perfect game to capture the mood of the spookiest time of the years. Kinectic Games has the perfect solution with their paranormal investigating horror game, Phasmophobia. While the game has been in Early Access on Steam, the game has become a huge attraction on Twitch, averaging on 100,000 concurrent viewers as well as being featured on prominent gaming channels such as PewDiePie, jacksepticeye, and CallMeKevin.
In Phasmophobia, a group of up to 4 players will take the role of paranormal investigators as they explore a haunted location and investigate for whatever paranormal activity they can record as evidence for a ghost removal team. Players can choose the role of monitoring from a safe location of their surveillance truck with CCTV cameras and motion sensors while the remaining members head into the location in the thick of the haunting. To gather the evidence, players will have three item slots to fill with genuine ghost hunting equipment such as EMF Readers, Spirit Boxes, Thermometers, and Night Vision Cameras.
The ghosts of Phasmophobia are the real MVPs of the game. They come in 10 different types with their own unique traits giving every investigation a new feel. They also have voice recognition meaning players can interact with the ghost through voice chat using an Ouija board or EVP sessions and they will respond. These ghosts are not of the Casper nature and will slowly start chipping away at your sanity meter, which will make you more susceptible to jump scares and draw out scarier ghosts. There is also a team sanity meter which if down to zero, the ghost will try to take you out one by one. Cooperation is the key to a successful investigation and making sure every one of you makes it out alive.
A huge plus point of Phasmophobia is the game has cross-platform between VR and non-VR players. So, players who would want to give themselves the most immersive, heart-attack-inducing experience can play it in virtual reality while playing with friends who don’t. Phasmophobia is currently available on Steam Early Access and has VR support for Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality, with Kinetic Games stating that they would expect to release the full game in 2021.
