5. Thymesia

Thymesia - Official Release Date Announcement Trailer

If you're a fan of soul-like games, like Dark Souls or Elden Ring, then you might want to venture even further into their dystopic setting with Thymesia. This souls-like game, to most people's surprise, isn't developed by FromSoftware but rather by Overborder Studio. Who pushes the genre to more horrific and grueling concepts that can only be compared to the likes of Bloodborne. So expect the enemies and bosses you encounter in Thymesia to haunt you in your sleep, as they most definitely will.

In Thymesia, alchemy was used to treat the kingdom's ailments, but when supplies ran out, the kingdom and its people fell into chaos. Now, infected monsters roam the kingdom, preying on anyone who walks its blood-soaked streets. You take on the role of Corvus, the kingdom's last hope for restoring peace, as the resolution to these horrors is buried deep within his memories. So deep that he's lost touch with it. The only way to uncover the truth is by reliving each heinous memory in search of the answer.

4. Evil Dead: The Game

Evil Dead: The Game - Gameplay Reveal Trailer | Summer Game Fest 2021

The Evil Dead series is undoubtedly a Halloween classic. So much so that it was just begging to take its iconic story and characters and develop them into its own game in, Evil Dead: The Game. Based on all three original Evil Dead films, the game allows you to play as all of the film's iconic characters, including Ash Williams, Kelly Maxwell, and Lord Arthur, among others. The four of you must work together to uncover the secrets and close the gap between worlds that are allowing the horror to infiltrate.

However, Evil Dead The Game is a PvP experience. That means that one player must assume the role of the evil and haunt, kill, and devour anyone who crosses their path. You can choose between three playable demons: the Warlord, the Puppeteer, and the Necromancer. Furthermore, the map features settings taken directly from the films. So, if you're a fan of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series, Evil Dead: The Game is one of the best PC horror games you can play this Halloween.

3. The Quarry

The Quarry | Official Announce Trailer | 2K

If you want some more story-driven horror it's worth checking out The Quarry. One of the most talked about horror games this year, The Quarry follows a group of teenage counselors on their last night of summer camp at Hackett's Quarry. While they may be expecting a fun night of no rules and no supervision, we know all too well that's just asking for a night of horror to ensue. That it does, and you have a direct impact on how it plays out.

You can play as each of the nine camp counselors, and every decision they make is directed by you. Which can be for the better or worst, as some decisions can result in dire outcomes for the other counselors. However, that's what makes The Quarry one of the best horror games on PC – the story provides a new experience with each playthrough. The only downfall is that you never know what might happen next as a result of your decisions. So if you're diving into The Quarry, don't take any decisions lightly, because the smallest ones can result in a horrific outcome.

2. Dead Space Series

Dead Space 2 Trailer

You've probably heard of the Dead Space series. It consists of three games released between 2009 and 2020 and are all based on sci-fi survival horror. If you haven't played it yet, you absolutely must because it's one of the best horror games on PC, arguably of all time.

Although, if you have a weak stomach, you might want to think twice because the Dead Space series is filled with grotesque horror. So, you can expect plenty of jumpscares and dismembered aliens to make your skin crawl. But, if you want the pinnacle of story-driven horror, the Dead Space series is it. Evidently, there's a reason why it's popping up on our horror game radar this Halloween.

Dead Space, the remake, is landing on PC on January 27, 2023. While it retains its original narrative, everything else, including visuals, audio, and gameplay, is being rebuilt from the ground up for the modern era. So, you can expect the Dead Space 2023 remake to be a terrifyingly wild ride. And the only way to adequately prepare yourself for it is by playing the original Dead Space games. As there's nothing else on the market that can replicate its atmosphere.
