God of War: Ragnarok No-Show Sparks Concern at Summer Game Fest 2022

Well, that's another Summer Game Fest wrapped up and sent out to pasture. Was it everything we wanted and more? I mean, meh, it could have been better.

So, why the ambivalence over what is otherwise a momentous occasion in the gaming industry? Well, it pretty much boils down to the lack of God of War material. As in, there wasn't any at all, which has now started to raise a few concerns between fans about it's supposed 2022 release slate.

Although Sony has reiterated countless times that the long-awaited sequel will indeed launch at some point in 2022, Santa Monica Studio, on the other hand, is no closer to revealing its cards. And as it stands, we are trucking through to the halfway point of the year, and are still without a concrete launch date. The question this raises now, sadly, is whether it'll even release this year at all.

A little late for an April fools joke, don't ya think?

Will God of War: Ragnarok still release in 2022?

Truth be told, God of War: Ragnarok was the most requested title of the night, with the likes of Twitter blowing its hashtag up hours, days, and even weeks before its curtain call. But, in spite of the blazing inferno of a hype train, the game was a complete no-show during the somewhat lengthy presentation. What exacerbates things is that Sony has no State of Play events in the diary. So, unless an event is planned out of the blue, fans will be without guidance for the foreseeable future.

First announced in 2020, the action-adventure sequel was set to release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2021. This window was eventually pushed back to 2022. And now, we're not entirely sure whether a 2023 slate seems more likely. Whatever the case, Santa Monica Studio need to reignite the hype train soon if it plans on settling one or two looming doubts.

Of course, you can follow Santa Monica Studio over on Twitter for more updates as they roll in. If, for whatever reason, something pops up, we'll be sure to let you know.

Anyway, what's your take? Do you think God of War: Ragnarok will release this year as planned? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
