Gearbox Lead Teases Borderlands 4, Claiming It To Be ‘The Big One’

Gearbox head, Randy Pitchford, has stormed the Twittersphere with some fresh news that gives Borderlands 4 a gentle nod. Although somewhat vague, the double-barrel tweet has implied that the developer is working on some next-level stuff. Moreover, it's looking as though a sequel to the 2019 Borderlands chapter could very well be well past the drawing board phase. Of course, you'll have to take that one with a grain of salt as these really are just a couple of tweets.

Looking back over the past few months, rumors have been spreading over a potential Borderlands spin-off with Gearbox co-piloting the project. However, in light of these talks, Pitchford has steered to social media to shoot down the rumors, claiming they are the sole developer for the whole of Borderlands. That said, the Gearbox lead has confirmed that they are working on ‘the big one', and have begun branching out their careers page for a new working title. Borderlands 4? Maybe.

Seeing as Gearbox will be rolling up to E3 2021, it's likely that any secondhand rumors will be put to rest and the Borderlands claims will be explored in greater depth. But we'll have to stick by our guns and see where the day takes us. Here's hoping that come June 12th, fans of the shoot-and-loot saga will be gifted with the closure they've been seeking these past few months. Until then, the ball ultimately lies in the developer's court.

Borderlands 3 recently landed on Xbox One X/S and PlayStation 5 with a boosted 60fps and native 4K resolution. You can check in on the latest patches for the game on the official Gearbox handle here.
