Games on Steam: Summer Fun
Games on Steam is a weekly installment that tackles the latest and greatest Indie games on this popular platform. Today, we tackle everything from serving coffee to the dead and dismembering gods, to feeding sweet koi fishes.
My Koi
To kick things off, we have a real chill simulator. My Koi brings you in a world filled with beautiful ponds filled with exotic fishes. You can manage over 50 of them and each has completely unique attributes. If you'd like to take it a step further, you can also completely customize each pond by planting plants, adding rocks, and changing the color of the water. If you are looking for a casual game that you can just vibe with, My Koi seems like a logical choice.
Friendly Fire
Friendly Fire has a well-known story – explore your surroundings and save the world from mysterious fate. However, the game is humorous and has a bizarre set of characters that somehow make you feel at home. Friendly Fire is also completely free and has a cool soundtrack, although it's a little bit short. Still, if you are into 2D pixel-art adventures, Friendly Fire will entertain you for a few moments.
Kari
Next, we have an interesting puzzle/adventure game from Team Unmanagable. You play as Kari, a Viking girl who got stranded on an unknown shore and is looking for her way home. To do this, she will have to find islands inhabitants and convince them to help her. Kari is a story-driven experience with a lot of smart puzzles that will occupy you for hours. It is also free, so there's really no reason not to try it.
Necrobarista
Necrobarista is part game, part visual novel that revolves around death and, well, coffee. The story is set in a back-alley cafe somewhere in Melbourne, where, the dead can spend one last night on earth. Necrobarista will introduce you to a bizarre set of characters, as they navigate and question the ethics of necromancy. The game has a powerful story that will make you think about the nature of living and dying and, more importantly, feel.
Neon Abyss
Neon Abyss is a refreshing action-platformer with roguelite elements. You play as a soldier from Grim Squad, a task force designed to obliterate new gods. It's run ‘n' gun philosophy coupled with unlimited item synergies creates an addictive experience that gives you much to experiment with. Aside from being fast-paced and featuring a ridiculous set of weapons, the game also offers cool little mini-games. All in all, Neon Abyss is one of the better roguelite platformers of the last few years.
Are you more of an old-school type of guy/gal? In our last edition of Games on Steam we went full retro, the result of which you can find here.
