Games on Steam: Mastering the Dark Arts
Games on Steam is a weekly installment that tackles this popular platform’s latest and greatest Indie games. Today, we will learn what it's like to be a Gibbon, how to talk with ghosts, and the benefits of being a boxing kangaroo.
Gibbon: Beyond the Trees
Let's kick things off with an emotional platformer that follows the journey of a Gibbon. He is lost, so he embarks on a dangerous journey to reclaim his freedom. The game pulls you in thanks to the beautiful hand-drawn art and an emotional storyline. Gibbon also has excellent swinging mechanics that makes you really feel like an ape, and I mean that in a good way. All in all, this is a short yet sweet experience with a powerful message on man's effect on nature.
Jack Move: I.C.E Breaker
I.C.E. Breaker is a prologue to an upcoming turn-based RPG Jack Move. In it, we follow Noa, a young hacker that wants to save her father from the evil corporation called Monomind. To do that you will need to create a powerful deck, jump into cyberspace, and clear out dangerous dungeons. I.C.E Breaker has an engaging combat system, a cool soundtrack, and a solid storyline. If the full game is anything like this, we'll have an excellent JRPG in our hands.
Kao the Kangaroo
It's easy to see that Kao the Kangaroo takes inspiration from the golden age of 3D platformers, circa late 90s. Kao is looking to solve the disappearance of his father, which turns out to be quite a quest. The game has a great level design reminiscent of Crash Bandicoot or Spyro, which will certainly appeal to the older gamers. It is addictive and brimming with personality.
Soda Crisis
If you are looking for a hectic side-scrolling shooter, you shouldn't miss Soda Crisis. Set in the far future, you play as a mysterious and powerful character with deadly skills and hi-tech gear. You can choose between many playstyles, and all of them are polished to perfection. Soda Crisis came out of nowhere and completely surpassed my expectations. If you love Indies like Metal Slug, you should definitely check it out.
Prognostic
Lastly, we have a tense detective horror story from Steppe Hare Studio. Prognostic puts you in the role of a young orphan whose family mysteriously died. For better or worse, you are also a medium who will stop at nothing to uncover the truth, and even solve new crimes happening in your cursed town. You'll do this by using logic and mastering magical rituals, which opens the doors to scary supernatural entities. Prognostic is a creative and atmospheric take on the
