Games on Steam: Let’s Chill This Summer
Games on Steam is a weekly installment that tackles the latest and greatest Indie games from this popular platform. Today, we will control the destiny of entire civilizations, create evil traps as broccoli, and help penguins steal some fish.
The Greatest Penguin Heist of All Time
To start, we have a wacky 4-player physics-based heist game where a lot is at stake. In it, you'll have to undergo missions to steal fish, kidnap an important chef, or an expensive work of art. To do this successfully, you'll design a custom loadout with tools and weapons of your choice. Since there's no one way to execute the heist, you can be as loud and deadly as you want. GPHAT may not be perfect, but it is undeniably fun and packs a lot of content, considering it is in early access.
The Fermi Paradox
The Fermi Paradox is a story-rich sci-fi strategy in which each choice can have a profound effect on life throughout the galaxy. Your job is to guide alien civilizations through millennia and decide whether they should thrive or barely survive. The game lets you manipulate up to 10 different species simultaneously, each with a unique set of challenges. Their stories will always intermingle in different ways, leading to different outcomes in each playthrough. All in all, The Fermi Paradox is a fun and intriguing indie with a lot of potential, and it remains to be seen if it will fulfill it in the future.
Bro Falls: Ultimate Showdown
Brokkoli got mad since nobody put him in the cart, and now he has devised a master plan to get back at other food groups. This is the premise of Bro Falls – a chaotic multiplayer platformer in which up to 60 players can participate. You can either play as Brokkoli and devise obstacle courses with smart traps that can be activated or as foods, which need to avoid them and reach his side. In short, Bro Falls is one of the better party games on Steam that won me over with its humor and visuals.
Til Nord
Til Nord is a relaxing open-world driving game in which you explore a mesmerizing island. Here, you can go up the mountain and watch the northern lights, search for the mysterious lighthouse, do badass snowmobile jumps, and more. In its essence, Til Nord is a chill experience with a lot of content to keep you occupied. It is also free, so there's no good reason to pass on it.
Merge & Blade
Lastly, we have a mix between auto-battler and puzzler called Merge & Blade. This is a charming fantasy game that tasks you with clearing out monsters that occupy your kingdom's castles. To make your crew stronger, you will have to merge 3 units in a Tetris-like puzzle, which creates more powerful units for an upcoming battle. When you begin the fight, you will have to pay attention to your formation, as well as the stats of each soldier. After each victory, you'll be able to upgrade your base and troops, which makes you a much bigger threat. All of this results in a relaxing yet addictive game that can keep you glued for hours.
