Games on Steam: Deep Sea Mysteries

Games on Steam is a weekly installment that tackles this popular platform’s latest and greatest Indie games. Today, we will learn how to reconstruct a universe, what are the most mesmerizing galaxies, and why you should befriend a swordfish.

Nix Umbra

To start, we have a surreal horror FPS where very little makes sense. Nix Umbra tasks you with surviving in the enchanted forest filled with nightmarish creatures. Both visuals and sound design set up an excellent trippy vibe, which is also enhanced by the lack of direction and understanding of what you should be doing. Even still, Nix Umbra is very entertaining and one of the most unique games on Steam that I have recently encountered.

Snake Force

Here we have a hectic top-down shooter that's completely free to play. Snake Force took the basic gameplay of Snake and turned it into an FPS. In it, you will lead your squad and fight enemy forces through 5 chaotic levels. Although short, Snake Force is very funny and challenging enough to keep you coming back for a few days.

Len's Island

Len's Island is a place where farming sim meets dungeon crawler, and the result is pretty good. As a new guy in town, your main goal is to build a life from scratch, which seems easy. Oh, but the island holds many secrets that will make it quite challenging. Len's Island can be played both as a relaxing sim, or a dungeon crawler, which makes it interesting. Its sense of progression is also very rewarding, so Len's Island takes place at the top of my list.

Exo One

From time to time, you find a game that's a work of art. This is one of them. In it, you will control an alien craft Exo One, which was designed with a blueprint we've received from an alien signal. With it, you will be able to control gravity and move in unexpected ways while traveling through mesmerizing desolate landscapes. Exo One is filled with epic scenes and has tons of mechanics that will keep you engaged all throughout this interplanetary voyage.

Pronty: Fishy Adventure

Next on the list is a refreshing Metroidvania. Pronty takes place underwater, in a city called Royla which was once filled with life. It's up to you to restore its glory by defeating hostile sea creatures which have mutated into something terrifying. Luckily, you have Bront, a friendly swordfish, to help you unleash devastating combos. Speaking of it, Pronty also has interesting gameplay mechanics that translate well into both puzzles and action sequences. The game also looks great, which adds to its mysterious atmosphere. All in all, Fishy Adventure is an excellent addition to the genre and one that fans shouldn't miss.

Undungeon

Undungeon is an ambitious post-apocalyptic RPG/RTS with an excellent story. The game is set after the Great Shift – a cataclysmic event that collided several versions of Earth and profoundly affected space and time. You play as Herald, a leader of a secret organization build to restore the order that was lost. By implanting various organs you can fully customize him and create a unique build that suits your playstyle. The game is set in an open world that is very much affected by the decisions you make, for better or worse. Although a bit repetitive, Undungeon is filled with engaging lore, great pixel art, and has a cool soundtrack.

Ruined King

Riot has finally decided to do another League of Legends spinoff, the result is Ruined King – an immersive turn-based RPG. In it, you will reunite with your favorite champions and travel to Shadow Isles to solve the mysteries of the Black Mist. The game has a solid story and easy-to-grasp combat mechanics, that will appeal to both veterans and new fans. If you are getting tired of the ol' 5v5 at Summoner's Rift, Ruined King might easily reignite the passion you had for this magical world.

Grow: Song of the Evertree

Lastly, we have a charming casual farming sim made by Prideful Sloth. Grow puts you in the role of Everheart Alchemist whose task is to protect the world of Evertree. Its beautiful flora can fauna reveal something new with every adventure, or you can put more focus on creating a community filled with intriguing characters. Grows also lets you design new worlds, which are seemingly indefinite, by mastering the art of Alchemy. In short, this is one of the best new games on Steam, and it might appeal to you even if you are not a fan of this genre.
