Game Developing Giant Ubisoft is Reportedly Up For Sale

Big news is buzzing around the gaming world this morning for one of gaming's most notable companies, Ubisoft. The well-known publisher is responsible for some of gaming's biggest titles like the Assassin's Creed franchise, Rainbow Six Siege, and a ton of other notable games. However, these titles might be the last ones we see Ubisoft publish as their own company. Early acquisition talks, as reported by Bloomberg, have noted that Ubisoft is up for sale with several private equity firms looking to acquire the game developing powerhouse.

Two private firms, Blackstone Inc, and KKR & Co. appear to be at the top of the list for potential buyers, however, reports believe that selling the companies is an inevitable future. As noted by Kotaku, several current and former Ubisoft developers feel the company will be sold in light of its decreasing stock price and decline in product sales.

So What's the Big Deal?

Aside from Ubisoft not being the only hand in creating their own titles, acquiring the company could sway huge tides in the gaming industry. Just recently we saw two huge acquisitions come from the two biggest names in console gameplay. Sony acquired Bungie for a massive $3.6 billion, and Microsoft purchase Bethesda for $7.5 billion. It's no secret that these two companies have been competing over the years for who can provide the best gaming experience on console, but with blood in the water, both companies could be looking to make a splash.

For tech giants like Sony and Microsoft, merging with gaming developers is all the more reason to use their consoles. Since, these mergers usually come with exciting new titles, exclusive to the console it's in partnership with. That's why Ubisoft being up for sale could play a huge role in the ongoing console war. As always we will keep you updated as the news progresses about Ubisoft's potential new whereabouts.
