Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie: Play or Skip?

Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s has, after several years of being at the pinnacle of every fan’s wishlist, made its way over to the big screen as a full-fledged movie — and boy, what a doozy it is.

In a matter of hours, the long-awaited adaptation of the cult-classic gaming series has come under serious amounts of fire from critics and die-hard fans of the franchise alike. Why? Well, as it turns out, some streamers have had a hard time trying to connect to the horror-centric love letter, with some even going as far as to call it “jumbled misfire”—a phrase that many appear to have agree on since its global debut. Due to its story being “next to non-existent” and some of the curveballs being somewhat predictable, a lot of said movie-goers have slated it as being little more than nostalgia fodder and nothing more. But don’t let that steer you away from grabbing a ticket, though.

It Isn’t All Doom and Gloom

That all being said, it isn’t all doom and gloom, as numerous fans have taken to social media to express their gratitude for the recent adaptation. Casting choices aside (Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard foot the bill), some watchers have gone on to praise the lore—a web that spins in tandem with the first two games in the popular series. So, swings and roundabouts, really.

When all’s said and done, it was always going to rock a  few apple carts — especially with its PG—13 certificate—a decision that director Emma Tammi happily supported in the preliminary phases of the film’s debut.

“I would say not to expect an R-rated version on this one,” said Tammi. “We're really happy with how the PG-13 tone landed; it felt like the right fit for this particular film. We're sticking by it.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s is now showing at theaters across the globe. For more details on the latest movie, you can check in with the official social handle here.
