Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier SHUT DOWN

Square Enix has revealed that Final Fantasy VII:The First Soldier will be shutting down early next year. The shutdown is a big blow to the franchise as the game will discontinue service barely a year after release.

According to Square Enix, the company will begin shutting down the service immediately, since it believes it has not provided the intended experience. The game’s official website provides a timeline and gives details of a three-stage decommissioning process. Players can no longer buy Shinra credits in-game, however, players can still use existing credits until the game's shutdown. As of November 1st, non-English localization will no longer be supported. This means that the text will only be displayed in English going forward. The game will finally shut down permanently on Tuesday, January 11, 2023. Square Enix promises to update and support The first Soldier till then.

“Despite all our efforts to bring you regular updates with fresh and exciting content, we haven't been able to deliver the experience that we were hoping to and that you all deserve, so we have made the extremely tough decision to end service for Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier,” Square Enix said in a statement.

The news comes just a month before the game’s first anniversary. Square Enix announced The First Soldier in February 2021 and launched it in November 2021. The game is an FF7 battle royale that takes place at the earliest moment in the series' narrative thus far. The game portrays the establishment of the SOLDIER force during Sephiroth's youth.

Sadly, this is not the first multiplayer game from Square Enix to end service this year. Platinum Games' Babylon's Fall, a live-service action role-playing game, will likewise end its service in February, less than a year after its flop launch.

Final Fantasy VII:The First Soldier will be available for download on IOS and Android devices till January 11, 2023.
