Fallout 5 Has Officially Been Confirmed

Updated on

Bethesda has finally shed light on the long-awaited fifth sequence to the Fallout saga, though reports suggest it won't be coming to consoles for a fair few years yet.

It's a know fact that Bethesda is one seriously tough cookie. As a firm, it develops some of the biggest and most ambitious open-world video games on the planet. Starfield, being the next chapter in the anthology, will soon stand front and center as the developer's latest and greatest showreel. After that, The Elder Scrolls 6 will be put into motion, and then, believe it or not—it'll be Fallout 5.

Of course, we've know for a while that Bethesda will be heading up another Fallout segment. What we haven't known, really, are the exact details of its story, platforms, or planned release dates. But now, news has surfaced, and by the looks of it, it could mean Fallout 5 could be with us in the next—I don't know—ten years or so. That is, of course, providing there are no complications with The Elder Scrolls 6.

Speaking with IGN, Bethesda's Todd Howard confirmed the news, stating that Fallout 5 is in line for the full development treatment after its current obligations are under wraps and shipped out.

Ah, but wait!

“Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we're going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate's pretty full going forward for a while,” Howard confirmed. “We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well.”

On average, a triple-A Bethesda game will take anywhere from three to four years to build. This has pretty much been the case since day one, meaning, Fallout 5 probably won't be launching for quite some time. And as much as we like remain optimistic, the reality of the situation is , we probably won't be scavenging any post-apocalyptic lands until 2025 at the very earliest.

So, what's your take? Will you be swinging by to pick up Fallout 5 when it eventually drops? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
