EA Summer Event Cancelled

Published

 on

Usually taking place alongside E3, the well-known video game expo. EA's own platform to make their own announcements, EA Play Live, has been cancelled. In 2016, EA started holding it's own EA live event during the week of E3, using this to announce their line-up and biggest upcoming titles. Coming to an end in 2022, EA seems to be shifting in favour of smaller showcases, where upcoming titles and IPs can be shown off individually and in depth.

Though, for many, this may not come as news, with EA Play Live missing E3 week entirely last year. Showcasing their titles instead a couple of weeks later, in July. With the state of E3 this year also seeming a little questionable, cancelling their 2022 in-person event. There is arguably little motivation for EA to maintain the same schedule. Given that the industry giant tends to make its announcements throughout the year, I can't say for sure if much will change.

Reveals going forward

From a statement made to IGN, the publisher went on to say that they had “exciting things happening in their world class studios, and this year we'll reveal more about the project when the time is right.” So while there are still of course many titles to look forward to, for those who have come to love the buzz of announcement season, it may be a little quiet this year. Possibly the sign of things to come, as an industry leader pulls away from the well known expo format. I can't say that I have ever felt the need to tune into many EA Play Live events, never struggling to hear about upcoming EA titles from a variety of sources.
