E3 2022 Has Been Canceled

Do you know how they say bad things tend to come in threes? Well, as it turns out, E3 won't be happening at all this year. And yes, that does include any form of digital equivalent, meaning E3 is, for lack of a better word—dead.

Although hopes for an in-person event phased out after last year's digital showcase, many spectators still sat on E3's watered-down promises that it would return again for 2022. But with little to no coverage since last year, it's becoming clear that its organizers never had much faith in it, to begin with.

Now, the ESA has gone ahead and hammered the final nail in the coffin, stating that E3 — both physical and digital — will not be happening in 2022.

This all stems from Razer PR lead Will Powers, who informed his Twitter audience of an email stating the news. Although keeping it brief, the outline of the message was pretty much black and white. And the bottom line is: it ain't happening, period.

There's always next year…

According to other sources, the ESA will be looking to regroup and come back stronger in 2023. But as for what that'll entail is another question, and one we're keen to hear the answer to. Until then, it's nothing but sad news for both gamers and creators, unfortunately.

But hey, look on the bright side. As much as it pains us to see E3 taking a backseat this year, there are in fact plenty of alternatives on the horizon. And, seeing as we're only in the first quarter of 2022, we can still loiter on the hopes of seeing a whole bunch of other all-digital events play out this year. So, you know, swings and roundabouts, I guess.
