E3 2021: it didn't quite blow our minds — but it did dig deep enough to leave a scorching headache.

After four solid days of hit-and-miss reveals and ambivalent feedback, the curtain has been closed for the year, with only the awards show left to signal its departure. And boy — what an ending. Maybe not quite the storybook ending most of us hand in mind — but an ending nonetheless. Of course, the lack of physical interaction did mean most awards were celebrated with cheap confetti and party poppers. But it was something, right? Although incredibly watered down and somewhat textureless — it was still an E3 worth commemorating.

As per the usual routine, E3 ended with its official awards show, in which it revealed a slew of well-deserved prizes over a snappy presentation. But what awards were handed out tonight — and which game snagged the most attention overall? Well, let's break it down, from the most anticipated indie title to the best showcase of 2021.

Most Anticipated:

Ubisoft Game: Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

Gearbox Software Game: Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

Xbox & Bethesda Game: Halo: Infinite

Square Enix Game: Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

PC Game: Songs of Conquest

Future Games Show: Immortality

Intellivision Game: Asteroids

Indie Game: Falling Frontier

Freedom Games: Airborne Kingdom

Capcom: The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles

Nintendo Game: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

Yooreka Studio Game: Loopmancer

Best Presentation at E3 2021: Xbox & Bethesda Showcase

Most Anticipated Game Overall: Forza Horizon 5

Well, that's it for another year. E3 will be back live and on a physical platform for 2022, providing nothing interferes, of course. But what did you think of this year's event? Let us know over on our social handles. Or if you're sticking around, why not flick back through the E3 highlights here on gaming.net?

Not ready to part ways with the festivities? You're in luck. Xbox will be revealing an extended showcase this Thursday (17th) at 10 a.m. (PT) / 6:00 p.m. (BST), with even more games to spill onto the board. So, if that's something you're interested in — make sure to stick around, as we'll be covering any exclusives that pop up over the course of the showreel.
