Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Teases New Video Game Movie

Contrary to what many believe, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will not be taking to Hyrule as the next Link. And yes, that is an actual rumor that is circulating the web as we speak. Why? Well, according to the WWE legend, a brand new video game movie is on the horizon — and Johnson himself is heading the project.

So, what is it? Well, that's where we steer into a dead end, unfortunately. Although the wrestling icon did mention a new movie, he did manage to keep his lips sealed as he was hounded by the press for clarification. One thing's for sure — it definitely isn't a Legend of Zelda movie, and The Rock, I'm sorry to say, will not be Link, and especially not Navi. Apologies if that crushes your hopes ever so slightly.

Johnson spoke about the mystery project

“I can't tell you which game in particular we're doing, but there will be an announcement this year,” Johnson explained when asked about the project. “We're going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen–one that I've played for years. I'm really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course we're going to do right by our gamer friends–but really we're just going to make a great movie.”

Of course, it's always a delight to hear movie stars speaking highly of the video game realm. Providing Johnson stays true to his word about doing right by us gamers, then we should be in for a real treat. As for what the game is or when the movie is coming out, that's anybody's guess. Whatever the case, we should hear more later this year.
