This year has seen many developers delay the release of video games due to various reasons. Dead Island 2 has also joined the long list of these games. The game’s publisher, Deep Silver, has confirmed that Dead Island 2 will be delayed again. The game will now be released three months after its initial release date.

Deep Silver announced the delay via a statement on Twitter. The game's initial date was February 3. Dead Island 2 will release on April 28, leading to a 12-week delay. When compared to the several years of delay from the original initial date of spring 2015, the 12-week delay can only appear small.

The statement did not state any specific reasons for the delay. According to the statement, the developers, Dambuster Studios, needed more time to “make sure we can launch a game we’re proud to launch.” Additionally, the developer acknowledged the “irony of delaying Dead Island 2.” The statement mentioned that the delay is equally disappointing for the team as it is for the fans eagerly waiting to play the game.

“The irony of delaying Dead Island 2 is not lost on us, and we are as disappointed as you undoubtedly are,” the statement read in part.

The developers first announced the zombie action RPG sequel in 2014. Dead Island 2 is a sequel to the zombie coop game launched in 2011. Before the 2014 announcement of a legitimate sequel, a spin-off launched in 2013. The game has had quite a rocky development, with several delays and changes in developers. Dambuster, an internal Deep Silver studio, took responsibility for the game’s development in 2019. Developers such as Spec Ops: The Line studio Yager and Sumo Digital had worked on the game before then. Dead Island 2 had a relatively solid release date of February 3rd, 2023, when the developers re-unveiled to the world this summer during Gamescom Opening Night Live.

Deep Silver will also release a new trailer and gameplay video during the Dead Island 2 showcase on December 6 on the game’s official channels. Dead Island 2 will release on April 28 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC.
