Developer CD Projekt Red has revealed the release date for the first major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. The polish studio announced the news at its most recent financial call which took place on Thursday

This is the first time CD Projekt Red has revealed any information about the expansion's release date. Although CD Projekt Red has a history of large-scale, amazing expansions like The Witcher 3's Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, the company has not revealed any specifics about what to expect from it.

The studio announced a year ago that a scheduled Cyberpunk expansion was still in the works, but the focus has been on fixes since then. Fans harshly panned it at its debut in 2020, forcing the developers to focus on the fixes rather than expansions. CD Projekt Red has issued eight major updates for the game since its release. The 1.5 patch, published in February, included the long-awaited next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X-S consoles. The update altered practically everything in the game. The developers released another fixer-upper in March. The necessity to focus on the main game has delayed new content development, but it will still be released.

“One of our priorities for 2021 was to improve Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay. We are now satisfied with the game and encouraged by the gamers' reception of its next-gen console edition,” management said.

While CD Projekt Red is still working on Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion, the studio is reducing the number of development teams on the game in comparison to last year. The majority of CD Projekt Red's development teams are now working on “other projects,” including the next Witcher game. The number of developers that have pledged support for Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion appears to be less now in comparison to the end of 2020.

Developer CD Projekt Red will release the first major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 in 2023. The studio will release further information on the expansion later this year.

Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 18 million copies, while The Witcher 3 recently surpassed 40 million units sold.
