Crystal Dynamics Announces New Tomb Raider Game

Crystal Dynamics, a team best known for the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, has officially shed light on a new chapter in the book.

Brought to the table today during the State of Unreal 2022 event, Crystal Dynamics shared that the new Tomb Raider game will be built on Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5. But unfortunately, that's about as much as the developer let slip.

“Crystal Dynamics is incredibly excited about the future of Unreal and how it will help us take our storytelling to the next level,” Crystal Dynamics announced. “That's why we're proud to announce that our next #tombraider game is being built on Unreal Engine 5!”

It's a waiting game

That is, of course, the full extent of the reveal. But it's something small to go on, and does rekindle the hope of seeing another one of Lara's adventures come to life on next-level hardware. Therefore, we'll happily take whatever is coming to us—even if it is just a minor Twitter thread.

Tomb Raider, on the other hand, hasn't been around since 2018, meaning four years have passed since Shadow of the Tomb Raider drew its curtain. Now, whether or not the next leg of the story will follow on from it, or simply roll out before it is another question.

Whatever the case, it's evident Crystal Dynamics is firing on all cylinders, working to develop not only Tomb Raider—but Perfect Dark as well as post-launch content for Marvel's Avengers. So, rest assured that something is definitely in the pipeline. Here's hoping we'll get a better look at it over the next few months.

You can, of course, follow Crystal Dynamics over on the official social handle here for more news and updates. We'll be sure to keep you in the loop should anything pass our way.

So, what's your take? What are you expecting from the next Tomb Raider entry? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
