Could a Metal Gear Solid Collection Finally Be Coming to PS5?

Updated on

Rumours have been spreading yet again over a potential Metal Gear Solid ensemble on PS5 later this year. Only, as these high hopes stem from the likes of 4chan, we do have to regrettably take every flicker of faith with a major grain of salt. That being said, there has been a fair share of credible sources that have rooted from the forum and other favourable platforms in the past. Plus, let's not forget that a Metal Gear Solid repackage has been floating around the network for quite some time now.

As part of the September rollout, the anonymous 4chan user has made it clear that Metal Gear Solid will be coming to PS5 over two unique bundles. In the first, the leaker made it clear that the first three games, which consists of Twin Snakes, Sons of Liberty, and Snake Eater, will be a part of one collection. So, basically, the first three games that were originally published on PlayStation. However, the second “bundle” will only include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, though it is believed to be a fully-fledged remaster, whereas the first three will just be standard ports.

It's been quite a few years since we've seen a Metal Gear bundle.

How likely is a Metal Gear Solid Collection on PS5?

Of course, seeing as this all stems from a rumour, we can neither confirm nor deny any of this palaver. That said, it does seem credible that Konami would work closely with Sony to help find ground for the Metal Gear franchise in 2021. One thing is for sure: OG PlayStation and Gamecube fans will be thrilled to see such a collection find a place on next-level hardware. Sadly, for the millions of Xbox users out there, the jealousy will most definitely burn high should this little rumour ever come to fulfilment.

Whatever the case, we'll be keeping a close eye on the networks should Konami ever publish any noteworthy content regarding Metal Gear. The fact is, 2021 has only just begun, and the PS5 is still finding its feet among the many fresh-faced titles out there. Sure, Metal Gear could be an excellent addition to the pile, but, for now — we're just happy to have an assortment of playable games to boot.
