Best Red Dead Redemption 2 Mods in 2022

Red Dead Online may be on the decline when it comes to harnessing players, but its primary game, being Red Dead Redemption 2, is still very much alive and kicking. Perhaps not as much as when it first launched back in 2018 — but kicking, if only enough to bruise the shins of anyone who steps within twenty feet of Rockstar's world. Just as well, because its mods are what's keeping the game afloat these days, with players still pouring hours in just to get a taste of the next Western atrocity.

The base game may have since faded since its 2018 induction, but its player base is still brewing new ways to breathe life into it through the power of mods. As for 2022, well, here's what's worth keeping an eye on for the next time you decide to return to the notorious Arthur Morgan for another round of robbing and ransacking.

8. Jobs Mod

If you're tired of robbing trains and killing innocents for renown, then perhaps it's time to trade in the revolver for a rag. Thanks to this simple yet effective mod, you too can join the Western society and make end's meet by pouring your heart into one of many, many jobs. Whatever your calling, know that you can earn a pretty penny through this bite-sized collection of odd jobs.

7. Bank Robberies

It wouldn't be a Rockstar game if it didn't let you rob some sort of bank, to be fair. A train is one thing, sure — but a bank? Unfortunately, Red Dead Redemption 2 fell short when it came to slotting in a few good old fashioned bank robberies, which is why a modder came along and bundled a few in on the side. No explanation needed for this one, of course. Rob a bank, get paid.

6. Custom Gang Mod

After living in Dutch's shadow for the best part of fifty hours, you'll probably want to stray south and start a little something of your own, no? Well, the good news there is, with a little mod, you can do just that, without having to face the consequences of abandoning Dutch's boys. Granted, it won't be as extravagant, but it's a piece of something for you and you alone. Have a camp, a few pawns to follow your every move, you name it. Whatever you say, boss.

5. Hot Air Balloon

You know, we really didn't get to see enough of the beauty that is Red Dead Redemption 2 from a bird's-eye view. Other than that single hot air balloon mission in the main story, we had to resort to ascending mountains in order to get our fix. And then, you know, we'd just throw ourselves from the apex out of boredom. But as luck would have it, the Hot Air Balloon mod came floating along, allowing for you to spawn, well, a hot air balloon. Take it wherever you like, and then take it to the skies. And then jump from it out of boredom.

4. MiniNPCs

Ah yes, one of those mods. You know, the type that Twitch streamers love to toy with for hours on end? Expanding NPCs to make them look like King Kong, only in a run-down Western town rather than the bog-standard Big Apple. Basically the type of mod you could play with and never get bored of, clean and simple. There isn't a great deal more we can say about, to be honest. If you want to turn your horse into the size of a mammoth, then this one's for you.

3. Simple Ragdoll

Going back to what I said about throwing Arthur from the apex of a mountain. Nothing looks more stylish than doing so with a mod enabled. Specifically, a ragdoll mod that lets you hurl a drunken Arthur from a mountain, as opposed to simply walking off it. It's ragdoll 101, and you can do whatever you want with it, be it in a drunken state, or just broken in general.

2. Switch Models

I don't know about you, but prior to this specific mod coming out, I always wondered what it would be like to take control of an eagle. Valhalla gave us a raven, but whatever. I, for one, wanted to be an eagle, and I wanted to know how it would feel to fly through a saloon and flutter my wings against some blackjack-loving cowpoke. Long story short, that exact mod eventually rolled out. And it didn't just stop at eagles, either.

1. Buyable Properties

So, you have finally reached the epilogue and you're wanting to spend all of that leftover cash, huh? Well, perhaps it's time to look past Marston's ranch and broaden your horizon ever so slightly. Property management is all the rage, and with this particular mod, you too can buy-in to hotels and houses and have them kitted out with all the bells and whistles to boot. Start a monopoly, why not? It is the land of opportunity, after all.
