5. Soul Hackers 2

Soul Hackers 2 is a fantastic JRPG. Created by Atlus of Persona fame, the game follows Ringo, an AI who has three human companions that help them along the way. Players will explore a world in which two different factions with clashing ideologies hold the secrets of humanity. These factions, known as the Yatgarasu and the Phantom Society, respectfully have different answers to the same philosophical questions. The game features a combat system that has been praised highly, and the game's presentation is top-notch. Players will face these philosophical questions throughout the game while attempting to save the world from a great calamity.

Players will be able to control Demons to combat their foes. Combat is primarily done while exploring dungeons and learning them of any Demons. The environments within these dungeons are explorable to the player. This is not the only type of dungeon in the game, however, as there exist Soul Matrix dungeons which are more for leveling and accruing different abilities for the Demons in your party. However, these Soul Matrix dungeons are also tied to the main character's ties to each party member, called a Soul Bond. Making maintaining these relationships is vital for success within the game. All in all, Soul Hackers 2 is a fantastic JRPG for those familiar with the genre.

4. Rune Factory 5

Rune Factory 5 is a fantastic game that combines many elements of different types of games for one incredible experience. The protagonist of this game wakes up in a new town after contracting amnesia. Following this, they have swiftly been whisked away to a world of peacekeeping rangers. Tasked with the latest job of protecting and serving the town of Rigbarth, the player quickly becomes acclimated to their new surroundings. Rune Factory 5 is unique because players can team up with the townspeople to accomplish various tasks.

In this laid-back setting, players can relax and enjoy their new life if they choose. However, more adventurous players can find themselves doing battle for many different rewards around the town. In conclusion, Rune Factory 5 offers a wide array of experiences for those both seasoned and newer to the JRPG genre. Therefore, we believe it is one of the best JRPGs to release in 2022.

3. Valkyrie Elysium

Valkyrie Elysium is a fine example of what a JRPG can be in 2022. The fifth installment of the Valkyrie series, Valkyrie Elysium, certainly does not disappoint. The game is a reboot of the Valkyrie Profile series introducing this fine series to a new generation of fans. The title is the first action-oriented RPG within the series and marks a new approach to combat. Combat is not the only aspect of the game that has seen improvements, however, as the character writing has been improved and employs lessons learned throughout the series.

The main improvements to the combat system include adding more combos to be implemented. Also, a Soul Chain ability allows players to zip to their enemies. Players will use this ability to weave combos together on various enemies with the help of their new skills. Also features in the game are Divine Arts, potent abilities that the player can use to cause significant damage to their enemies. In closing, Valkyrie Elysium might not have garnered as much attention as other titles on this list. However, this does not speak to this game's quality. So if players are looking for one of the best JRPGs to play outside their comfort zone, this title will undoubtedly provide a wonderful experience.

2. Elden Ring

Elden Ring is an absolute masterclass in game design and boss mechanics. However, the developers at From Software certainly did not rest on their laurels with this title as they strove to show how excellent it could be. As a result, the game serves as many people's introduction to the Souls series and familiarizes the players with its mechanics more than its predecessors. The game also seemed to take the world by storm when it was released, with many people who haven't even played any other Souls game latching onto Elden Ring. This rise in popularity has revitalized the series and has players clamoring for more.

The game features combat that is slow and deliberate for the most part, which demands players to make their moves wisely or risk dying.
