5 First-Person Shooters You Might Have Missed in 2021

 on

For many, First-Person Shooters (often shortened as FPS) are like the bread and butter of consoles, PCs, and now smartphones. There are countless shooting games available on every platform and it’s hard to tell which ones are worth playing. Moreover, you cannot possibly try all the games out there to hunt down ‘the one' for you.

Due to this, we often end up playing FPS games which get the hype. We give in to the FOMO and do not even explore the other titles. Often, splendid games come and go without even making a murmur.

This is why we decided to look back a little and check out some First-Person Shooters that did not get the hype they deserved.

Top 5 First-Person Shooters That You Need to Check Out

Not all the shooters that are launched make it big out there. So, we handpicked some of the underrated FPS games of 2021.

5. Enlisted

first person shooters 2021

Enlisted is a chaotic MMO FPS set against the backdrop of World War II. You get to control a whole military division by yourself (a group of 4 to 9 AI soldiers). There are four modes to choose from and it has four campaigns as well.

The gunshots from the ancient guns sound real. If you have great headphones, then you are in for a treat! Interestingly, Enlisted looks better on PCs than on Xbox. On Xbox, the textures might get a little murky.

Enlisted received mixed reviews. Some players were of the opinion that aiming with rifles was hard. Others did not like the WW2 theme while, some had issues with the AI squad. And of course, the fact that it encourages you to buy skins and cosmetic items bugs many players. However, the free-to-play grind is totally doable.

Enlisted managed to deliver a better experience than some AAA titles did last year.

4. Mundaun

If you like action and gunplay with a dash of spook, then Mundaun is something you need to check out. Developed by Hidden Fields and published by MWM, Mundaun came out in March 2021. The sketchbook art theme is what draws attention to this game.

Unlike typical First-Person Shooters, Mundaun has a story. Players take on the role of Curdin, the protagonist. The narrative that follows is a perfect blend of horror and action. Along with the shooting part, there are puzzles throughout the game. You get to explore spooky buildings and unravel clues.

Mundaun can be completely non-violent. The shooting part in this game is optional. If you don’t like games with narratives, then Mundaun is not for you.

As of now, Mundaun is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and Windows.

3. Lemnis Gate

Lemnis Gate was a rather pleasant surprise. The game has a seemingly unlikely combination of First-Person Shooter, turn-based strategy, and time loops. It gets increasingly complicated as you progress from one round into the next.

At its core, Lemnis Gate is still the classic shooter that we all know and like. However, the time loops add real fun and chaos. There are 5 rounds in a game and they all overlap. The 25-second duration speeds up the pace of the game.

You have to select an operator for each round. And by the time you are in the fifth round, the previous four operators (past avatars of yourself) are running around on the map.

Pretty chaotic? Yes. Fun score? 10/10!

Lemnis Gate is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Windows. You can get it for free with Xbox Game Pass.

2. INDUSTRIA

best first person shooters

INDUSTRIA is another great First-Person Shooters that is set in Cold War. To be more precise, it takes place in a parallel universe during the end of the Cold War. If you love story-driven games, then INDUSTRIA is loaded with it!

As a player, you look for a lost colleague in the chaos of the war. However, you are transported into an enigmatic alternate reality. As you look for your colleague, you become entangled in a sinister plot in the mysterious parallel universe. Unlike what you may imagine, the other side in this game is quite urban and industrialized, hence the title.

One of the pros of this FPS game is the rich story that keeps you hooked until the end of the 4-hour gameplay. Developers have experimented with the soundtrack and players are loving it!

1. Necromunda: Hired Gun

best underrated shooters 2021

Necromunda: Hired Gun definitely did not get the hype it deserved. If you have played any of the Necromunda games before, you know you are in for some dark action. Hired Gun takes place on the mechanical planet of Necromunda. Visuals take the lion’s share of praise that the game has received.

As a player, you will be a mercenary who is unraveling an underworld conspiracy. There are regular levels with side quests. You get to choose melee as well as ranged weapons. A combat dog will be your accomplice. Hired Gun has additional mechanics like grappling hooks and other stealth mechanics.

Not many players like the story or the customizations. However, most of the players praised the unusual location of the game, novel mechanics, stealth, and combat.

Of course, this is not really the end of the list. We might have missed out on some amazing games. You can let us know some hidden gems that you discovered in 2021. Leave us a comment below and tell us your favorite First-Person Shooter.
