With the rise in demand for battle royale and PvP games, developers have stopped making single-player campaigns. However, EA seems to have an eye on redeeming the practice.

In a recent job listing by Electronic Arts, the company may return to the single-player campaign mode or develop a single-player game. The listing mentions the need for a single-player campaign designer.

A long history of single-player games

The Battlefield series had initially gained popularity with titles like Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 3. They had great single-player narratives of different soldiers of the World War era.

Players also loved the Bad Company spinoffs with single-player storylines. These games offered a captivating experience to the players as they stepped in as soldiers in different war situations.

However, the recent Battlefield 2042 lacked a single-player campaign focusing solely on multiplayer modes. The reception was underwhelming and EA now wants to move past that disaster.

EA posts a Design Director vacancy

For the fans of the old BF series, the studio has some great news. EA is looking for a design director for the EA Battlefield Seattle Studio. The first point of responsibility in the listing is “design efforts necessary for creating a best-in-class single-player campaign experience.”

Other details of the job mention that the person needs to “embrace the core tenets of the Battlefield franchise” ensuring “they are woven through all layers of a masterfully designed single-player campaign”. The company seems to need a developer to focus solely on single-player campaigns.

In another tweet by animation director Lianne Cruz, she mentions job openings at the EA Battlefield Seattle Studio.

However, confusion still exists around the development of single-player campaigns. It is not clear whether the company is trying to revamp Battlefield 2042 or if they are entirely focused on a new title.

Fans might have to wait a few more months before they receive a confirmation from the developers. As of now, players can try out the new Battlefield Mobile or check out other popular entries in the franchise.
