Animal Crossing New Horizons Direct: What Was Announced Today?

Updated on

After sticking to the shadows for the best part of a year, Nintendo finally emerged to deliver a twenty-minute update on what's to come for the loveable little world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

First of all, Brewster and his iconic Roost café will once again set up shop in a new wing within the island museum. Of course, this was already revealed a little while back, with Nintendo confirming the return of the island regular during the Nintendo Direct showcase in September. But what else was announced during today's showcase? Well, in case you missed it — here are the full details behind the event.

Everybody's favourite barista is back, complete with The Roost café!

Brewster & The Roost Are Back

Good news, islanders! Come November 5th, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will employ Update 2.0, which will introduce new encounters, new spots, and, of course — The Roost, home to the beloved Brewster.

Kapp'n & Harv's Island Updates

Also coming with the update is Kapp'n, a sea-loving critter that will ferry you to one of the many islands in search of treasure and natural resources. On top of that, players can also step on over to Harv's Island, where a whole pile of construction updates will soon plant roots. This includes psychic Katrina, who will tell you your fortune, along with a pipeline of general stores and exclusive hangouts.

Group Activities

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will roll out yoga classes on the island plaza, where players will be able to participate in group activities, using either manual motions or the Joy-Con controller to play.

Island Ordinances

The resident representative will soon be able to enact your island ordinances, meaning users can enable specific hours in which islanders will be active, whether it be during the early hours of the midst of twilight. Users can also upgrade and select various new exterior designs for fellow residents.

Max Storage Capacity

Your home storage is about to get a whole lot bigger! Animal Crossing: New Horizons will finally be increasing the storage capacity, going from 2,400 to an impressive 5,000 spaces. So, no more worrying about burying leftover items in the beach somewhere.

New Items For Nook Miles

Even more items are coming to the Nook Miles store, including DIY cooking recipes (yes, cooking!) as well as lighting and ceiling décor, both of which can be applied to single areas as opposed to the entire room.

Bridges & Inclines

A small thing, but worth pointing out nonetheless. Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be increasing the maximum number of bridges and inclines from 8 to 10.

Pro Camera App

That little camera app on your phone is being upgraded — finally. Without the bird's eye-view restriction, users can finally use a tripod mode, meaning taking selfies and personal photographs can be done without any hassle. So that's something!

Custom Clothing Patterns

Remember that bank of patterns you made months ago? Well, the good news is — you'll soon be able to plaster them all over your clothes.

New Emotions & Reactions

Express yourself in tonnes of new ways with a brand new collection of emotes, including waving goodbye, stretching, and, of course — jammin‘.

Island Life 101

A new app is being implemented in your phone, which will act as a guide for island newcomers, with plenty of useful information on how to make the most of your new home. This will also give tips on certain activities and resources. So, think of it as a pocket guide, basically.

K.K. Slider

As well all know, the famous pup K.K. Slider rolls up to the plaza every Saturday to perform to your island residents. Only now, the musician will be bringing a further twelve tracks to the stage, from “K.K. Polka” to “K.K. Break“, all of which can be listened to on a brand new music box, which will be available from the store.

Gyroids

Animal Crossing will soon introduce gyroids, the earthly creatures that you'll be able to dig up, mix and match, and essentially customize to match your home interior.

Permanent Ladders

Tired of having to whip out the ladder every few minutes to climb a small part of your island? Well, come November you won't have to worry about that, thanks to the DIY Ladder Set-Up Kit, which will allow you to fit permanent ladders anywhere you please. Finally.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0 will be available as a free update on November 5th, 2021. This will also be the last update for the game, according to Nintendo.
