5 Video Game Collections You Should Gift This Christmas

Updated on

As much as it pains me to say — we do have to acknowledge the fact that Christmas is closing in, meaning the havoc of having to secure and panic buy gifts will be enforced in a matter of days. Unless, of course, you're buying for a gamer — in which case you're in luck, what with most games being made available as digital downloads these days. But if you, the eagle-eyed shopper, are looking for something more physical, as well as with a little more bang for your buck — then you'll be pleased to know that video game collections are littered like confetti these days.

It doesn't matter if you're a console gamer, handheld, PC, or even in favour of the mobile platform — because the fact is, there are plenty of bundles to go around — and at dirt cheap prices too. So, if you're wanting a little extra game for your coin, then be sure to check into these five collections this winter.

5. Batman: Arkham Collection

Available on: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC

Rocksteady's critically acclaimed beat 'em up Arkham saga has been bundled up and ribboned in an exclusive trilogy, complete with new and improved visuals and an even sturdier combat system. Of course, this isn't the first time the Arkham series has been thrown into a single basket. However, it is the first time we've had Arkham Knight included in a set. Origins, on the other hand, has once again been given the rough end of the stick. That's the only downside.

From the wicked and winding halls of Arkham Asylum to the secluded and secretive passages of the Bat Cave, the Arkham Collection rehashes all of its monochrome-glazed beauty and builds on it like never before. Complete with an iconic roster of heroes, villains and comic book figures, this slick steelbook saga is sure to put a smile on any DC fan's face this Christmas.

4. Borderlands: Legendary Collection

Borderlands Legendary Collection - Launch Trailer - Nintendo Switch

Available on: Switch

Everybody loves a looter-shooter. Everybody also loves Borderlands, if not for the gameplay — then for the sheer wit that the series has been able to radiate like clockwork these past twelve years. And it's because of that immense popularity the saga has pulled, that it was only natural for Gearbox to return the favour by developing a single chest for all three treasures.

Excluding Borderlands 3, the Legendary Collection consists of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and a whole bunch of exclusive perks and add-ons. The only downside to the deal, sadly, is that the physical copy is basically locked to Nintendo Switch. Digital copies, on the other hand, are available on both Xbox and PlayStation.

3. BioShock: The Collection

BioShock: The Collection | Launch Trailer | PS4

Available on: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Switch, PC

Submerge into Rapture once again with the acclaimed BioShock: The Collection. Take to the skies and explore the picturesque metropolis of Columbia. Experience all three mesmerising journeys with one jam-packed trilogy for as little as $10. Prepare for unencumbered thrills in the multi award-winning series that raked in hundreds of awards over its healthy life span.

BioShock: The Collection pulls you into the dystopian city of Rapture, a place where tweaked-out citizens and monsters both run amok. As the sole survivor of a plane crash, you'll have to brave the depths of the sunken city in order unravel its mysteries and escape its nightmarish grip. And that's just Rapture. Don't even get me started on Columbia. Anyway, you can pick up all three games within the generously compressed collection for around $10 from most stores.

2. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection - Life of a Thief | PS4

Available on: PlayStation 4

Naughty Dog's magnum opus of the last decade was generously enveloped in one meaty package a few years back, giving players with a hunger for adventure a chance to fill up on an all-out banquet of thrill and fortune. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, despite missing the fourth and final entry to the saga, still stacks up as being one of the best bundles on the market. And, as a sort of cherry on top — it's only a few dollars.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception — three of the best-selling action-adventure games of our generation — can now be picked up on PlayStation 4, both physically and digitally. Bolt on the upcoming Legacy of Thieves Collection, and you'll have the entire journey front and centre. Of course, you'll have to hang fire until early 2022 to get your hands on that pack. Until then, be sure to catch up with Drake's debut in the aforementioned collection, available for as little as $10.

1. Assassin's Creed: Legendary Collection

Assassin's Creed - 6 Legendary Assassins (Altair, Ezio, Connor, Edward, Arno and Jacob)

Available on: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC

Ubisoft certainly isn't shy when it comes to sewing bundles together to help keep the spark alive between releases. And Assassin's Creed, being one of their biggest annual sagas, definitely isn't a stranger to such bundles. Having said that, The Ezio Collection and The Heritage Collection were both bite-sized  compared to the rather sizeable Legendary Collection.

So, what's included in this lofty package? Well, for around $60, you can get your hands on Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin's Creed: Rogue — Remastered, Assassin's Creed: Unity, Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, Assassin's Creed: Origins, and lastly, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. Yes, that many. All of that for one pretty tidy price. Can't complain, can't complain. Throw in The Ezio Collection and you'll have a cool 90% of the series. Worth every penny in our books.
